After a successful kickstarter Keniji Inafune’s spiritual successor to Mega Man will finally release this June. The first reveal of this project left gamers shocked, with many literally throwing money to the kickstarter campaign the second it went live. The insanity surrounding Mighty No. 9 took off with many eagerly awaiting a release date that would come 3 years later. However the hype train that carried Mighty No. 9’s to fame has left poor Beck at the station, now the highly spirited voices that shouted for Mighty No. 9 are gone.
Immediately after seeing news after about Mighty No. 9 I, like many, assumed the game would faced another delayed once again. Mighty No. 9 faced 3 delays in total, with Inafune claiming that the game wouldn’t be delayed again after the second announcement, giving players false hope. After going gold the scars left by these unexpected issues have effected gamers to look at the project in a new negative light.
The comment section on the official Mighty No. 9 page announcing the project release date quickly filled with vexing comments about the development. Even with the project’s completion backers worry that the company will not deliver on the rewards promised and delay them. Despite the massive acclaim Mighty No. 9 faced during its reveal, raising the $900,000 USD goal in 2 days after launching the campaign and closing with over $3 million in funding, the vexation caused by the extensive wait has no doubt left fans waiting the game instead of yearning for it.
Mighty No. 9 could become an excellent platforming game, but the desire for it has long past. Most fans who devoted their time and donated their money to see this game come to life have become frustrated, simply wanting the product because they paid for it instead of their original intentions during the kickstarter campaign. It’s a shame Mighty No. 9 could’ve reinvoked classic 2D platforming for a new generation of gamers but now that powerful momentum quickly dropped due to delays and angry patrons. Mighty No. 9 isn’t mighty anymore.
