This guide will hopefully help and update the members of this community with easy to read snippets and screenshots to go along with them.

Noobfeed

"Here at NoobFeed we aim to provide a quality service to those who loves games just as much as we do. We do not claim to be able to compete with big corporate sites, we only promise to try to the best of our ability to bring you top content on a regular basis. Our main focus at first will be gaming news, with the occasional review, preview and editorial thrown in for good measure. Then as and when our team expands so will our website and all the content therein." - About Us

As RON and other administrators have metioned, when this website is fully functional it will compete with the larger gaming websites.  According to RON, the website is only about 15% done (feature wise) and the team is on a 3 year plan to create a website dedicated to gaming, with the features you all expect.

Profiles

All registered users will have access to a profile, which gives you many features including the ability to blog, write reviews, view other people's profiles, post on forums, and many other things.  Having access to your profile is a privelage, not a right.  With that being said, your privelages can be switfly taken away if you abuse the Terms of Use.  Get to know the ToU, and you won't have to worry about getting moderations or getting banned.

Levels

One of the most notable features of being a NoobFeed user is the leveling system.  As you spend time on the website, you gain level percentages and eventually grow in level.  The levels are updated once a day (about 1 AM Eastern Time), so that means if you just read 10 reviews your level won't update immediatly. As a note, focusing on one aspect of the website is probably not the fastest way to level... for example writing 4 blogs a day, or getting 100 posts daily. Your level and percentage can be viewed in your profile.  Currently the highest level users are canana, Tanya, and ILIAS (Level 40).  Here is a guide which offers more information on leveling, and all of the known levels.

Emblems

Emblems are icons in your profile which you get through doing various things on the website.  For example, you can get an emblem for reaching 1000 posts, or for being hired by NoobFeed as a freelance writer  For more information on emblems and how you get them, visit the Emblem Guide.  NOTICE: Currently, the emblems aren't automatic and are handed out by the administrators when you reach requirements.  If you have 80 poll votes or 1000 posts, don't worry if you don't have the emblem.  The administrators will notice your accomplishment and will give you the emblem you deserve, sooner or later.

NoobFeed Badge

A NoobFeed badge is an icon which is a lot like an Xbox Live Gamertag Icon, or the Playstation 3 Badge.  The badge is in HTML format, and can be put on any website that supports HTML posts.  It contains the information you choose about your NoobFeed profile

Tagging

Tagging is a system used by NoobFeed ( and most other social networking websites) for easier access to information.  When you tag an item with a word, then that item will appear when someone searches that word.  It is a system where the users create easy news, reviews, blogs, etc. There is a tag cloud on the right of the forum page. Items that can be tagged have a link saying "Tag It".  To tag the item, simply click the link and type in the word(s) you want that item to be associated with (seperate multiple words or phrases with a comma).

 This is from RON's blog on the proper use of tags;

RON said:

What is Tag:

A tag is a non-hierarchical keyword or term assigned to a piece of information (such as an internet bookmark, digital image, or computer file). This kind of metadata helps describe an item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching. Tags are chosen informally and personally by the item's creator or by its viewer, depending on the system. On a website in which many users tag many items, this collection of tags becomes a folksonomy. Source

Dos:

1. Use words which you’d actually use to search a similar article/thread you are tagging. eg: if you are tagging any E3 2009 article or thread and use a separate tag ‘2009’; do you think you’ll ever find that article if you search at any search engine (google, ask, msn, yahoo etc)? Even if you search any E3 2009 article; you’d use E3 2009 not 2009. So, a proper tag for E3 2009 can be the followings: e3,e3 2009 or E3,E3 2009

2. Use a comma at the end of each word.

3. Use the words other will use too.

DON’Ts:

1. Don’t use any space between the tags. eg: not tag, writer, noobfeed, forum but tag, writer, noobfeed, forum

2. Don’t use any symbol (- , . / - + _ % & * @ " etc) unless it's part of any word. But never at the beginning of any word.

3. Don’t make too many words under one comma. Two words are sufficient but not more than three.

4. Don’t use preposition words  ( to, of, with, and etc )

5. And, also don’t get scared reading this blog.

We haven’t introduced the moderation system for tags, as we never thought it’d be necessary. Though I still don’t think it’s necessary. All you need to do is care a bit more about what you are returning to NoobFeed for its expansion Smile

See the difference between our Tab Cloud and a Proper one. Now, I leave everything under your judgment.

News

News is currently written by freelance writers working for NoobFeed.  If you wish to submit news that you think is interesting, go to the "NEWS" tab in your NoobFeed "Toolbar" and click "Submit News".

Reviews

At the moment, reviews can be written about virtually anything.  They aren't limited to games.  To see the most current and popular reviews, go to your "REVIEW" tab in the NoobFeed "Toolbar".  If you want to submit a review, go to the "Review" tab in your Profile Toolbar and click the button "Write a Review".  It is suggested to write and edit your review in Word Processing Software, and then copying it in the WYSIWYG Editor.

Your most current reviews are displayed on the bottom of your profile.

Blogs

NoobFeed supports blogging, which is basically a file where you can talk about anything from gaming to how your day was. To write a blog, go to your profile and click the button that says "Write a Blog" below your avatar.

Just like you, your friends probably write blogs from time to time.  To see the latest blogs that your friends have wrote go to your profile, and look on the right side of the browser as you scroll down.  You will notice your friend's most recent blogs.  You can also access the most recent blogs written on the website by clicking the "Blog" button on the NoobFeed toolbar.

Friends

The friends feature on NoobFeed is a way to quickly access the contributions of users who you believe post interesting content.  If you want to add someone to your friends list, simply go to that persons profile (www.noobfeed.com/users/profile/*Insert Username Here*) and click the button "Add as Friend" under the user's avatar. After you added someone as a friend, they receive a friend request.  If they accept the request, both of you end up on each other's friends list.

Editing Your Profile

To edit parts of your profile, first you have to go to your profile and click the "Info" button. You will have 5 sections of your profile you can edit: Accont, Password, Profile, Forum Boards, and Privacy. Under the account section you can edit information such as your address, name, e-mail, etc. The Password section lets you create a new password for your account. The profile section lets you edit your "About Me" information, as well as add a avatar and banner for your profile. The Forum section lets you add a signature (in HTML code) which can be seen on the forums, and has certain thread prefrences. The privacy section lets you set restrictions on who can see your profile.

Sizes For Banners, Avatars, and Sigs:

Avatars: 98x98 Pixels

Banners: 692x147 Pixels

Signatures: (Maximum Size Unknown)

If you are looking to scale an image you can use certain websites like Imageshack and Photobucket to resize that image to set pixels. If you want to scale an image to any size you want, you can use a photo editing program like Photoshop, or GIMP*.

*GIMP is a free to use program, unlike Photoshop... which you have to purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

NoobFeed is messing up and I am having glitches and problems accessing parts of the website.  What do I do?

The website is young and is constantly under development, so a glitch or two is understandable.  If you noticed a glitch that is giving you a problem, please post it in the Bug Forum.

How do I invite my friends to NoobFeed?

Every page on NoobFeed has a button which says "Invite Friends". You will have an option to select an e-mail provider.  Select the provider that you will be using.  After that, sign into your e-mail account and choose the contacts you want to invite to the website. NOTE: The e-mail provider "Hotmail" is listed as "Live".

Where can I post ideas or feedback?

If you have any ideas or feedback for the website you can post on the Idea and Innovations Forum.

ZOMG WTH I just got moderated and recieved a point loss.  Who do I appeal my case to?

You got moderated for breaking the Terms of Use.  If you believe that your moderation can be overturned, or just want to clear up the reason for the moderation then visit the Moderators Board.

How can I become a moderator on NoobFeed?

Like fishdalf has said, NoobFeed is currently not recruiting any moderators... but they are always looking out for users with positive attitudes who contribute to the website. For more information, check out this thread.

I have 1000 posts and 1000 tags, but I don't have the emblems for them! Please help!

The emblem system on NoobFeed is not yet automated.  This means that the administrators need to go through people's profiles to find out their stats before they reward you an emblem. The administrators will most likely not notice your statistics unless you publicly state that you have reached the requirements to recieve an emblem.  To notify administrators of emblems you deserve, post the emblem you are missing in this thread.

Special thanks to fishdalf, ForestHump and kelaidis.

NOTE: This guide is not complete, and I will be adding in more information and screenshots as NoobFeed gains extra features.  Thank you!

Update: 01/25/2010

NEW FEATURES:

Text Editor

Noobfeed has implemented a new text editor to the website. This editor is attached to every aspect of the website which has the user inputting data, including forum posts, blogs, personal messages, comments, etc.

Login/Membership Dates

You can now see the date a user last logged in and the date the user signed up for Noobfeed. Both of the dates in the user's profile below the emblems on the right hand side. Note: The last log in date will be displayed as your membership signup date unless you have logged in after the site's update.

Recent History

A section which displays all of your recent history is now up and running. Using this, people can check out what you have been up to on the website. To access this page go to the user's profile and click the tab labeled “history”.

User Notification

User notifications will give you the option to see if anyone has responded to you in a blog. In this system when another use types in @yourusername in any part of the website, you will get a notification about it so you can read the user's comments and respond. Instead of constantly checking a blog to see if someone responded to you, you can just check the user notification page. To access this page, click the link right below your website statistics on the right hand side of your profile.

Personal Message Buttons

Reading a friends blog and want to send them a message about it? Instead of opening up the PM box and typing in their name you can just simply click the button on their profile saying “Send Message”. You can also do this on the forums, clicking the “Send a message” button on the left side of the screen below the user's avatar.

Nicely done, saves me the work of putting screenshots and what not in. Only if we could combine them though making one guide. Great guide though. I would have done the requests but with my recent events it has not been my priority

No problem, thats what im here for Smile.  I am reading your guide and adding that information in this guide, while adding some new information... so it is in a way combining the guides.  Just like you, I am a little busy as well... so I will be updating this throughout the week with new screenshots and sections.
