Team Ninja Pausing The Nioh Series

No Nioh related projections will be developed during 2021.

Team Ninja director Fumihikio Yasuda has announced that the team has decided to halt any Nioh projects throughout 2021 and instead work on other IPs. Nioh 2 launched earlier this year and has been extremely popular among action role playing fans for its faster pace spin on the Dark Souls formula. Rather than return to the role of William (inspired by the real life English sailor turned samurai, William Adams) players create a new original character to play as. Yasuda iterated that Nioh 2 is a good place to “rest” the series, though that doesn’t rule out sequels and spin-offs in the far off future.

Team Ninja is also the main developer of the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series, along with helping co-develop games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Hyrule Warriors. Team Ninja may be working on a sequel to one of these, or possibly a brand new property.
