SEGA's New Sonic Game called Sonic Mania

First their was Project Needlemouse, then Sonic Generations, now Sonic Mania returns Sonic back to where he started.

As part of Sonic's 25th anniversary Sonic Mania will feature classic 2D platforming. Players can choose to play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles across new and re-imagined zones. A new mechanic called the drop dash will allow players to immediately dash when they hit the floor.

The trailer only shows gameplay of Sonic so it's uncertain if playing of either Tails or Knuckles will allow players to access different sections of each zone. Also not shown was how Chaos Emeralds will be collected, based on the retro style SEGA can choose either the classic bonus stage option or give them to the player like in modern Sonic games.

Sonic Mania will launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC in Spring 2017.
