Scribblenauts is making a return but not with its original developer. 5th Cell who created the series and originally debuted on the Nintendo DS in 2009 ran into financial troubles. After the release of Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventures in 2013 but Scribblenauts: Fighting Words was canceled in 2016. Now Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment is bringing the series back with Shiver Entertainment called Scribblenauts Showdown.
Slated for March 9th the game will come to Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
The game will retain its classic sandbox mechanics, allowing up to 2 players to solve puzzles across 8 levels using any object they can think to summon. The series signature art style will be used and players can customize their characters.
A versus mode will contained which includes 25 2-player minigames. All games can be played with 1 player and set to endlessly shuffle.
Showdown is the brand new mode which features board game style gameplay. Here players compete in a variety of minigames called Wordy and Speedy. In Wordy players try to outsmart the other player using items. Speedy has players competing to complete challenges as fast as possible using Scribblenauts' various items.
Scribblenauts Showdown is currently slated to release for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on March 9.
