Seems Nintendo wanted in on the patent action, as Siliconera (do those guys just spend all their time looking for new patents? 'Cause it's lookin' that way given how many these things they've uncovered recently) uncovered a patent revealing what looks to be a new type of cartridge for the DS based on the illustration (pictured below).
But then again, the patent specifically states that it's strictly for "illustration purposes only," so maybe it's not for the DS and instead for a new console? It's hard to say for sure at this point, as the patent doesn't have much to go on. Perhaps more on this will be revealed at the Game Developers Conference this week...
