UK broadsheet newspaper, The Telegraph, state that the latest craze in workplaces around the globe seems to be video games masquerading as Excel and Word documents. The games allow workers to pass the time whilst keeping their bosses off of their backs.
One game involves a space ship flying between the lines of a spreadsheet, whilst another mocks the classic Tetris, requiring the user to destroy blocks of the same colour before a wall of bar charts takeover the screen.
These games, which make use of Flash technology, are displayed via pop-up windows and are designed so that “nobody can see that you’re gaming. In fact, your boss and colleagues will think that you’re working harder than ever before.”
They have all been programmed by four programmers from Holland, and a blurb from their website reads, "Let’s face it; we all want to relax every now and then, but still want to appear professional or busy,” which I’m sure many office workers can relate to.
You can find out more or try some of these games out for yourself at http://CantYouSeeImBusy.com, although we’re not personally indorsing these as a substitute as work, but we are saying they’re kind of fun, and err, easy to disguise.
