The ultimate conclusion to Batman: The Telltale Series finally here, ending Telltale’s journey on a high note. Bruce Wayne is challenged with not only restoring Gotham’s stability but attempt to find purpose knowing his family’s dark past. The technical issues and simple detective puzzles destroy the episode’s fluidity but ultimately City of Light is a great conclusion to Telltale’s Batman series.
Episode 5 starts off strong with the decisions from the episode 4 affecting the events in the beginning. Bruce is handicapped by the consequences of the last episode and now faces unbelievable odds as The Children of Arkham take hold of Gotham. Bruce will have to find new purpose in his destroyed life and try to save Gotham from the criminals that have now taken as the leaders of the city.
Returning are Telltale’s signature technical issues. Here the issues were immediately apparent with the episode featuring massive drops in the frame-rate and in one instant preventing me from progressing. The detective puzzle still serves a bump in the episode, with the player solving a simple connect-the-evidence crime scene.
Fortunately, the action sequences and writing are nothing less but spectacular. Choices and consequences from past episode resurface, forcing me to lament on all the encounters that brought me here.Heavy situations such as dealing with Bruce’s relationship with Selina and Alfred are tested throughout. The final battle is predictable but still manages to dazzle the eyes despite not having any direct control over Batman’s actions. The season ends with a look into the next antagonist and something fans of this episodic game will look forward to.
Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 5: City of Light concludes Telltale’s Batman series on a high note. The detective sequences either need to be improved or reduced to a cutscene and the technical issues have become increasingly more difficult to simply accept. Despite this, I cannot wait to see what season 2 holds for Batman.
