Mastering the Perfect Parry in Ghost of Yōtei is one of the first defensive techniques you should focus on early in the game. This mechanic slows down time and opens an opportunity for counterattacks when executed correctly in Ghost of Yōtei.

Unlocking the Perfect Parry

Before you can use the Perfect Parry, you need to unlock it in the Onryō Skill Tree. Open your map and locate the Altar of Reflection. Interacting with this Altar provides unlocks that will help in the early stages, and the Perfect Parry should be among the first to obtain.

Once unlocked, you will see the description in your Skill Tree: Parrying an enemy’s strike at the last possible moment slows time. It allows a counterattack while also granting a moderate amount of spirit in Ghost of Yōtei.

How the Perfect Parry Works

To perform the Parry, press the L1 button just as the enemy’s attack is about to land. Timing is key. Oversee the opponent’s movement, especially the moment their elbow begins to extend during a strike. Press L1 at that exact instant to trigger the Perfect Parry.

Once the Parry succeeds and time slows down, you can follow up with a counterattack. Use the Square button for a light attack or the Triangle button for a heavier strike. The light attack deals elemental damage, while the heavy attack inflicts greater force.

It may take some time to adjust to the timing, so practice frequently to become consistent in Ghost of Yōtei.

Practicing with Different Weapons

You can perform the Perfect Parry with different weapons. Start by practicing with the basic Katana to get comfortable with the timing. Then, switch to the Dual Katanas to test the Parry in other combat situations.

If you are holding the right trigger during a fight, note that you cannot dodge while maintaining that stance, but it can still aid in Parrying under certain conditions in Ghost of Yōtei.

Facing Multiple Enemies

When surrounded by more than one enemy, stay focused on the movements of the opponent currently attacking. You will still follow the same process: press L1 at the right moment to activate the Parry, slow time, and then counterattack using either Square or Triangle.

Switch between weapons when necessary to handle specific situations more effectively. You may need to return to the regular Katana in some encounters, so be prepared to change weapons quickly in Ghost of Yōtei.
