Mario & Luigi: Brothership Guide | How to Get Bulbfish Island Jail Key

You need to get past the prison area first; jump across the obstacles, and continue moving forward until make it to a secret room. You'll have to jump down so that you can enter this cell, and then head in through the dark door.

There are clues regarding the case in this room. Look at the desk for some clues; then, climb up and around past the bookcase to find a diary at the top far left-hand side of the screen. This diary should contain critical information to bring back outside.

Once you're back outside, you're going to see that matters have taken a turn for the worse. The couple and their assistant are now being sent to jail after being framed. Head to the jail and talk to them to gather information. After talking to them, you're going to have to head back up with the new information.

Next, approach the guard, who seems to know something but refuses to share. He sends you on a quest to find his kid brother. However, his brother won’t appear until a specific event is triggered. To learn about this event, speak with the characters near the leader’s house at the top of the area. They’ll mention the Secret Snatcher, he's a character that supposedly snatches secrets.

You can find the Secret Snatcher on the left of the island near the edge. To spawn him, turn off the lights. After it's dark, he’ll emerge from his hiding spot; once he's out, speak to him, hand over the diary you collected from the secret room, and he’ll provide you with the information that you need to locate the guard’s kid brother.

You'll be able to find the kid brother inside the Restaurant; apparently, only he shows up after you’ve spoken with the Secret Snatcher. Head to the top left of the restaurant and speak, and return to the guard with new intel.

The guard will finally hand over the Jail Key, completing your task. That’s how you obtain the Jail Key on Bulbfish Island in Mario & Luigi: Brothership.
