Shinsaku Takasugi in Rise of the Rōnin becomes available through the bond mission system after you progress through specific story missions. His recruitment involves completing preliminary missions before accessing his questline.

This ally offers versatile combat capabilities and teaches multiple combat styles, making him a valuable addition to your roster.
How to Unlock Shinsaku Takasugi
Shinsaku Takasugi will become your friend once you finish the "Try Your Luck" bond task, which is also his first bond mission.
After completing the "Follow Your Blade Twin" ronin task, which is part of the main story, you can start this bond mission.
You need to complete the "Follow Your Blade Twin" story mission first, then seek out Takasugi's bond mission to begin the recruitment process.

The "Try Your Luck" mission involves various challenges and story sequences that test your abilities and develop the relationship between your character and Takasugi.
In order to hire Takasugi, you must finish the bond mission's battle situations, conversation options, and goals.
Once you complete all of the "Try Your Luck" mission's goals, Takasugi will join your team permanently and be able to help you in future missions and battles.
Combat Abilities and Equipment
Shinsaku Takasugi can use both katanas and polearms in battle, which makes him useful in a variety of settings. Because he is good at using two weapons, he can adapt to different types of enemies and changing fighting situations.
His second weapon is a gathering of fire bombs, which can damage a large area and give him tactical benefits in group battles.

His blessing ability makes your backup weapons, like bombs, throwing things, and other useful tools, more powerful by increasing the damage they do.
When paired with Ryoma Sakamoto's gift, this effect is even stronger, making combos that work better together and making battle much more effective.
Bond Level Rewards and Combat Styles
When you reach maximum bond level with Shinsaku Takasugi, he provides comprehensive combat training across multiple weapon types. He teaches you three different combat styles, making him one of the most valuable allies for skill development.
The first combat style he teaches is Yagyu Shinkage Ryu for katana, which comes from the Chi skill tree.

The second style is Shinto for polearm weapons, obtained from the Te skill tree. At bond levels three and four, he teaches the Knight style for your axe tail blade, also from the Te skill tree.
When your bond with Takasugi is at its highest level, it gives you two intelligence skill points. You can use these skill points to level up your knowledge and get new skills that help you learn, make, and play the game technically.

With his many intelligence points and different fighting styles, Takasugi is a great partner for character growth and battle flexibility.
