RX 9070 XT vs. RTX 5070 vs. RX 9070: FSR 4 and DLSS 4 Upscaling Benchmarks
Comparing RX 9070 XT, RX 9070, and RTX 5070 across twenty-three games using 1440p quality upscaling modes.

When the GeForce RTX 5070 and Radeon RX 9070 were compared before, the Radeon model consistently performed 13% better when quality DLSS 4 or FSR 4 was used at 1440p.
The picture would not be complete without the RX 9070 XT, which is priced just above the RX 9070 and RTX 5070. The RX 9070 XT was supposed to cost only $50 more than the two rival models, but the price gap has grown to about $100.

In the real world, this means its value depends on how much extra speed it provides, especially when modern upscalers are enabled. This study examines that question across 23 different games.
Test Methodology and Upscaling Focus
The point of this comparison is not to run the same old native-resolution tests, but to see how DLSS 4 and FSR 4 affect GPU performance in real-world 1440p gaming situations.
There are also native TAA results for comparison, but the main focus is on quality, balanced, and performance upscaling modes. The global override tools for both Nvidia and AMD were enabled to ensure the latest upscaling versions were used.
This is because upscalers produce different rendering results and are not always identical. The MSI RTX 5070 Vanguard SOC, the ASRock RX 9070 Steel Legend OC, and the Sapphire RX 9070 XT Pulse were all used for testing.
To remove factory overclocks, all cards were locked to reference specifications. A Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, 32 GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, and the latest drivers and game updates were used in the test.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
The RX 9070 XT achieves 120 FPS at 1440p without upscaling, so it's not really needed to do it. It is 7% faster than the RX 9070 and 22% faster than the RTX 5070 when quality upscaling is turned on. This is the same scaling seen at native resolution.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
The RTX 5070 and RX 9070 both work about the same when the very high setting and ray tracing are used. The RX 9070 XT is 9% faster when displaying in native mode and 8% faster when quality upscaling is enabled. If you only look at the two Radeon GPUs, the difference drops to 4% under FSR 4.
The Last of Us Part I
This title is good for AMD. The RX 9070 XT is 28% faster than the RTX 5070 out of the box, and the gap narrows to 20% when quality upscaling is enabled. The XT is 11% faster than the RX 9070 in native mode and 8% faster when upscaling, indicating better DLSS 4 scaling.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 2 keeps acting strangely. Even though the RX 9070 XT is 16% faster than the RTX 5070 out of the box, the difference narrows to 4% when quality is increased. The GeForce GPU has a 1% advantage at low settings. It's between 3% and 5% across the AMD cards.
Assassin's Creed Shadows
The RX 9070 XT is 28% faster than the RTX 5070 in this case, and it's 23% faster with quality upscaling. Upscalers don't add much, and all three cards only see small improvements from native to quality FSR 4.

The Last of Us Part II
The RX 9070 XT is much faster than the RTX 5070, by more than 30%, both when running games at the original resolution an d when upscaling. But with FSR 4 quality, the gap to the RX 9070 drops to just 3%, and all Radeon scores are above 150 FPS.
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima works best with Radeon graphics cards. The RX 9070 XT has 40% higher native speed than the RTX 5070 and maintains a 37% lead when quality is increased. It's also 11% faster than the RX 9070.
STALKER 2
STALKER 2 doesn't work well with faster GPUs, which makes changes less noticeable. As it is, the RX 9070 XT is only 7% faster than the RTX 5070. When upscaling, it is 11% faster. Quality FSR 4 only makes a 3% difference between AMD cards.
Marvel Rivals
The RX 9070 XT is 19% faster than the RTX 5070 at original resolution and 22% faster when quality upscaling is used. The RX 9070 is still 5% faster than the XT.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
Upscaling is very good for all GPUs. With quality FSR 4, the RX 9070 XT is only 4% better than the RX 9070. With DLSS 4, the RTX 5070 completely closes the gap.
Star Wars Outlaws
This title behaves strangely. Normally, the RX 9070 XT is 20% better than the RTX 5070 out of the box. But with FSR 4 quality, the difference grows to 41% because AMD scaling is better. The XT also gets to about 90 FPS, but the RTX 5070 sticks around 60 FPS.
Hunt: Showdown
The RX 9070 XT is now 25% faster than the RTX 5070 with quality upscaling and 7% faster than the RX 9070. Radeon's speed problems have been fixed.
Dark God of War Ragnarok
The RX 9070 XT is much better than the RTX 5070, with a 32% lead at 1080p and a 35% lead at 4K. It also performs 10% better than the RX 9070 with FSR 4 quality.
The Stellar Blade
One of the best games that works with GeForce cards. With quality upscaling, the RTX 5070 is about even with the RX 9070 XT in terms of average frame rate, but it is much better at 1% lows. Upscaling takes away some of the XT's natural edge over the RX 9070.

F1 25
The RX 9070 XT really shines in F1 25. With quality upscaling, it beats the RTX 5070 by 31% and the RX 9070 by 14%, enabling it to go over 120 FPS.
Cyberpunk 2077
With the high RT setting, the RX 9070 XT has 15% faster average frame rates than the RTX 5070. But 1% lows match, which means the frame time behavior is less stable. The XT is 14% faster than the RX 9070 at both normal and low speeds.
Hogwarts Legacy
This means that the RX 9070 XT is 24% faster than the RTX 5070 and 16% faster than the RX 9070. Upscaling beyond quality doesn't yield many additional benefits.
Borderlands 4
Radeon cards work very well with Borderlands 4. The RX 9070 XT is 40% faster than the RTX 5070 out of the box and 35% faster with quality upscaling enabled. It's also 12% faster than the RX 9070.
Mafia: The Old Country
It's 40% faster than the RTX 5070 at higher-quality settings and 8% faster than the RX 9070. With the XT, the game runs at a nice 90 fps.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Even though it wasn't optimized well and upscaling didn't make it much better, the RX 9070 XT still beats the RTX 5070 by 41% and the RX 9070 by 8% in quality upscaling.
Dying Light: The Beast
This game is good for Nvidia. While quality upscaling is going on, the RX 9070 XT is only 11% faster than the RTX 5070. This is much closer than in most games.
The Alters
You can use quality upscaling to make the RX 9070 XT 24% faster than the RTX 5070. This is a little faster than its original lead. In native mode, the XT is 12% better than the RX 9070, but that edge drops to 8% when FSR 4 quality is used.
Battlefield 6
There aren't as many changes in Battlefield 6. The RX 9070 XT has a 14% edge over the RTX 5070 in quality upscaling, and a 7% edge over the RX 9070.
23-Game Average Results
The RX 9070 XT is 24% faster than the RTX 5070 when running games directly and 22% faster when quality upscaling is used. There is no realistic upscaling mode in which the RTX 5070 can reliably match the RX 9070 XT at 1440p without sacrificing image quality. Balanced cuts the lead to 21% and performance to 19%.
Different cards also have different levels of upscaling quality. For example, FSR 4 balanced on the RX 9070 is usually the same as FSR 4 quality on the RX 9070 XT.
Compared to the RX 9070, the XT is 10% faster natively and 8% faster with higher quality, which aligns with AMD's official stance. Most games give the XT an edge of 5-12 percent.

Final Thoughts
The RX 9070 already had a 13% performance lead over the RTX 5070, so it makes sense that the RX 9070 XT has a 22% performance lead at 1440p when quality upscaling is used. If all models were sold at their original prices, the RX 9070 XT would be a much better deal because it has more VRAM and much better speed for a slightly higher price.
It's harder to say which is better when prices are taken into account, but the RX 9070 XT is the fastest and most ready for the future of the three GPUs.
