Since it was released eleven years ago (2009), League of Legends has become one of the favorite multiplayer videogames of all time. The secret behind its huge success is the freemium model they offer users that is supported by microtransactions inside the game. You can either play with a team of other players or compete against computer-controlled champions. Either way, the main goal is to destroy the other team’s nexus. Players are organized into two teams that have three or five members. Each player controls a single champion; each one of them has unique characteristics or attributes that describe their play style. If you want to choose a specific champion, your options will be limited according to what you have unlocked by playing.

Each week fourteen champions are released for free so you can choose one and this is called free champion rotation. If you want your champion to gain experience you must kill his/her enemies. Whether you play solo or with a team of other players, we bring you some interesting facts about this popular video game that you might not know and can be helpful to you.

History of LOL

League of Legends was originally created by two university students based in Los Angeles, California called Brandon and Marc. They both decided to create their own video game company called Riot Games and after several tests and attempts, they finally partnered with a Chinese conglomerate and released League of Legends in September 2009, their first video game ever. Since the release of the game more than ten years ago, their success has been enormous. In 2012 it was considered to be one of the most played PC games in many countries earning praise through the years for its artistic and musical departments. It has more than 100 million active players each month and it continues to grow in popularity each passing year and gaining players in every corner of the planet. Furthermore, League of legends is more than a game.

Lilia: The new LOL champion

Since 2017 League of Legends is finally releasing a new character. Lilia is a whimsical woodland jungler that has plenty of abilities. According to various sources, Lilia is quite shy. Although an official image of the new character has not been released yet, a few fans around the globe have created designs on how they imagine she looks. Some deer-like features, a dreamy jungler look, and a “mid-range skirmisher” are just a few of the features of this new champion and it is presumed she will also have sleep abilities. We’ll have to wait for the release to confirm or deny these predictions.

Old Characters

Last year, some of LoL’s characters or champions, or as they are popularly known turned 10 years old. For an entire decade Alistar, Annie, Ashe, Fiddlesticks, Jax, Kayle, Master Yi, Morgana, Nunu, Ryze, Sion, Sivir, Soraka, Teemo, Tristana, Twisted Fate, and Warwick have been fighting one another. Over the years, of course, they have received major updates both visually and physically. Some of them are expected to receive updates soon. It is incredible to think that as of today there are more than 140 champions. The founders also announced recently that they will be adding more champions to the list in the upcoming years. They have classified champions in six different types; Marksmen, Mage, Slayer, Tank, Fighter, and Controller.

League of Legends has been widely popular through the years and it continues to increase its popularity as younger generations start to get to know this video game. According to stats, the game makes around $1.4 billion dollars in revenue each year and it is estimated to grow its revenue in the upcoming future as more champions, games, and missions are currently being developed and released. Users will surely never get bored of this fantastic game that has been around for more than ten years. And this is only the beginning.

According to Metacritic, the video game has received super good reviews. Users have highlighted their incredible game design as it has customization options and great visuals. According to Riot Games, the video game has earned 32.5 million players, of whom 11.5 million play monthly and 4.2 million play daily. These numbers are insane for a video game that has been around for so long which is just an example of how gamers are taking things seriously.

Fans across the world have been faithful throughout time even though the game has a competitive scene. Riot games organize yearly competitions with some of the best players out there, two to be precise. One in Los Angeles and the other one in Berlin. Of course, this excites their biggest fans out there. The last World Championship had more than 100 thousand unique views, becoming one of the most-watched eSports games around the world.
