*Drumroll* It's an update.

By Major_Tom, Posted 06 Jun 2009

I feel like a bit of a git, coming over here back in February and going on about this being a great new site, slick, cool and I'm going to really get into it. Then what, 177 posts? A single blog, no reviews, no real presence in the boards. Well that should be about to change. From now, I'll be posting my blogs from gamersperspective here as well and I'll make an effort to involve myself with the community a bit more.

So, the update:

At this moment in time, I'm in a sort of limbo. My AS exams are all but finished (statistics in a week's time) and on Monday I start the lessons for the A2 courses. This point feels kind of weird, because I have 3 or 4 important choices to make in the coming months, but there is nothing that I do for at least 2 months. These choices are: which subject do I drop for next year. The choice is between maths and Philosophy/Ethics. Up to now, I had been fairly convinced that I would drop Philosophy, but now I'm not so sure. I don't want to dwell on the things that I can change, but my maths exam was hard and Philosophy and Ethics felt like they went well. I can always resit a maths module if needs be, but I am far less certain than I was.

The other big decision is which universities to apply for in October. I can go for 4 medical schools, with one non medical back up, and at the moment, I'm thinking of Oxford, Nottingham, Peninsula (Exeter/Plymouth) and Cardiff. But I'm not sure about Cardiff. Really not sure. I've got open days coming up, but the Cardiff one looks like it will clash with my work experience placement, which was not easy to get (in the end, I got set up with a friend of my biology teacher as I couldn't get onto any hosptial's in house scheme.) Meh. I'll think about it in a few weeks.

My personal life seems to be taking a positive turn in recent weeks. I'm seeing a lot more of my old friends who all went to a different school to me after year 11 and I'm doing an awful lot less of what I'm doing now: sitting in my house, alone, on the net.

I also seem to be addicted to Faith No More's Angel Dust and anything I can get my hands on by Dream Theater. If you haven't listened to either of these bands, you need to.

Gaming-wise, I'm having a bit of a dry spell. I really wanted to finally finish Bioshock, but I've been so damned busy, I just don't have the time to put into it.

For noobfeed readers- Hopefully this blog will actually post, as it failed when I tryed to blog a few weeks ago. Also, visit gamesperspective.com Smile

GP readers- don't worry, this doesn't mean I'm spending any less time with you guys. fishdalf may have already mentioned it to you, but if you visit noobfeed.com you will be impressed.

As always

  • Glad to hear you're going to be around more often! You have to take a hard choice it seems .. it's quite important to choose the thing you're going to do better at .. therefore , I wish you luck.

Faith No More is visiting my country this year , but I've never got into listening .. I might check them out on youtube.Dream Theater on the other hand is a pretty good band.. at least the instrumental part is brilliant.. too bad I can't stand the vocalist too much.

Math or Philosophy! difficult choice to make. Math is easier to understand but needs regular practices, where as Philosophy needs a lot of time with the library work, case studies and paperwork. but you're going to study Medical and you may need to take Math course ( not sure though ). Math is usually a prerequisite, whenever it comes to Uni. So, once you decide which Medical Uni you'll be applying and then you can check their course curriculum and decide one from Math or Philosophy.

and, it's always good to have you around. specially when we are trying to grow. so, i'm really hoping to see you on board :)

  • Most schools have the same sort of offer, they want 2 sciences, one or both of them must be an A, and most unis demand Chemistry. Maths vs Philosophy is a hard one. Maths gives you excellent analytic skills and is recognised as a hard subject, plus statistics may come in handy. On the other hand, Philosophy has a medical ethics module which they may look favourably on in an interview situation.

true. i have a feeling that you're leaning towards Philosophy! is it so?

i recommend you not to think about Uni atm and find out that in which subject you can easily manage an A. if you think you can manage A in any of the courses you pick; then it’s totally up to you. both the courses have their pros and cons. you just need to recognize the course you're most comfortable while studying.

  • You know RON, that's exactly what I'm going to do. I should get an idea of what's what in the next month or so.

  • Thanks for your support mate. I'm slowly trying to make more and more time in my schedule so that GP can once again get onto my list of posted sites. It's taking time and cutting some shortcuts, but i will try and get back there as often as possible.
