Some of the Best Upcoming First-Person Shooter Games of 2024

2024 might have started with the boom of third-person action-adventure titles, but FPS games will surely come.

By AtillaTuran, Posted 03 Mar 2024

2024 started very oddly with the sudden emergence of Palworld. To put its similarities and rivalry against Pokemon aside, it was able to bring a third-person action title to the market and keep it afloat, too. Nowadays, Helldivers 2 is making the numbers due to its high-action third-person shooting mechanics and ability to fend off a huge horde of space bugs. But what about first-person shooters? Where are they?

All we can say is that they are currently being worked on, and we can assure you it is going to be a great year for FPS games as well; here are some that are expected to arrive this year and are anticipated to deliver a great experience for the fans of the genre.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, NoobFeed

1. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando

The title might be rather strange; John Carpenter is known for his extreme take on horror movies in the 1980s and 1990s, so what’s the deal with him titling a video game? Just like how Tom Clancy is considered the name title for Ubisoft’s shooters, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is exactly the same. The gore and horror in this upcoming co-op FPS title are very close to John Carpenter movies.

In this game, we’ll be teaming up with our friends, using vehicles to traverse through zombie-filled terrains and gearing up as we find who caused the outbreak and put an end to it. The game is expected to arrive this year for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. We ought to mention that it will be only exclusive to Epic Games.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Unrecord, NoobFeed

2. Unrecord

Now, here’s a very unusual and controversial game. Unrecord is a one-man project that is unheard of and delivers its promise extremely well, to a point that made people think it was real-life footage. Created in Unreal Engine 5, Unrecord tells the story of a police officer, and we see his actions through his body camera. While it might seem easy to imagine, the realistic camera effects combined with the graphics engine of the latest Unreal Engine make the game almost life-like.

There is no certain release date for Unrecord; it might even be delayed at some point due to the developer’s intent on giving pinpoint accuracy in terms of graphics and gameplay, but there might be a chance of getting it this year as well. The title will be exclusive to the PC platform.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl, NoobFeed

3. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl

The next S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game has been in the minds of the series’ followers for quite a long time. This post-apocalyptic shooter was delayed numerous times due to developers being situated in Ukraine and the effects of the Ukraine-Russia war, plus their office burning down and all other problems. Despite all of the negativity, GSC Games has given an exact date on when they are going to release the anticipated simulator.

It is an irony within itself to release a game about the consequences of war while being in the war yourself. But hey, they could have entirely halted the project, too, if they wanted to. Instead, they wanted to push on regardless. We can expect to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl on the 5th of September this year; the pre-orders are now open, too, so you can grab it now.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, NEO BERLIN 2087, NoobFeed

4. NEO BERLIN 2087

Here’s a contender from a new game studio. Created by Esylium Game Studio, NEO BERLIN 2087 is a cyberpunk-themed action game that fuses elements of both third-person and first-person shooters. The game takes place in a dystopian German city, Berlin, and tells the story of a detective who has lost himself in the dark era of humanity.

Not much is known about the game besides the promotional images; we only know it's coming in 2024. Although the game looks a bit rough at the age of a few years, it is currently in the works, and we believe it is going to be a favorable title for many.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Death Relives, NoobFeed

5. Death Relives

FPS games are many, but there aren’t many when it comes to the horror genre. Actually, when we come to think of it, not so many FPS games utilize advanced AI when it comes to the horror genre. However, Death Relief does. With their premise of delivering the best hunter AI, the studio behind the title wants to give players tense cat-and-mouse gameplay with a constantly hunting AI. Players won’t be stranded from weapons, though; they can use certain arms and puzzles for their benefit to keep the hunter away from themselves while trying to survive the eerie environment.

Death Relives is currently being worked on and expected to arrive in Q1 of 2024 for PS5, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Abiotic Factor, NoobFeed

6. Abiotic Factor

Do you like how cute and absurd Half-Life scientists behaved? Like they would run around aimlessly and be scared of anything that was unearthly? Well, good news, because Abiotic Factor captures the same vibe effortlessly, only this time, you are the one who’s a scientist. Of course, the game isn’t that cruel; you and your buddies can defend yourself from terrible alien enemies by building bases and crafting weapons.

What drives Abiotic Factor to be liked is the subtle hint of original Half-Life graphics and a touch of silliness thrown into it. This lovely homage to Half-Life and its core can be played on the 2nd of May this year; until then, only a few selected people can test the Early Access build.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Plan 8, NoobFeed

7. Plan 8

Pearl Abyss’ Plan 8 is an action thriller shooter with first-person elements, though since we haven’t got much coverage since 2022, we haven’t seen the first-person side of Plan 8 yet. It’s an RPG title built around making your character stronger against your enemies at every chance you get, and with its detailed graphics, it looks promising. As much as we want to see Plan 8 in the flesh, it is unlikely that the title will pass this year in development as well, thanks to developers keeping their silence.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, ROBOBEAT, NoobFeed

As says on the tin, ROBOBEAT is a hi-octane, psychedelic arena shooter that relies on the players’ capability to land shots on every beat. Some other games also tried the same subgenre, and despite its low popularity, it is considered fun and rather exclusive compared to other FPS subgenres out there. Nevertheless, ROBOBEAT is funky, raw, or soothing depending on the music you choose and the cards you pick on every level you pass, so the player's freedom is heavily infused into the game.

ROBOBEAT hasn’t got a proper release date yet, but we can expect to see it hit the digital shelves this year, ready to bang in some tunes while beating enemies.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Soulslinger: Envoy of Death, NoobFeed

9. Soulslinger: Envoy of Death

Here’s one of the exceptions from the list: Soulslinger: Envoy of Death can be played right now, but it's in early access, meaning the game hasn’t reached its full potential. However, the developer, Elder Games, stated that they would bring the full version of the game this year. Therefore, we could potentially see 1.0 of Soulslinger: Envoy of Death in 2024. The game is based around roguelike elements, where you gain different abilities every wave. It's mostly popular with 2D games, but FPS games can also benefit from the genre.

The theme seems to be rather outlandish, putting the players into a fantasy world as a gunslinger with demons to fight with. Certainly one of the titles to look forward to when the full release appears on the PC platform.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, ExeKiller, NoobFeed

10. ExeKiller

We know that the cyberpunk aesthetic has been used many times in new games, but ExeKiller’s approach to the post-apocalyptic world seems unique, even with its very limited screenshots and pre-alpha gameplay footage. The story is not apparent, but we will play as androids in the forgotten deserts, trying to survive with items scattered around the barren buildings. Our main way of transportation is going to be our car, obviously, and since the setting fits well with the whole gameplay perspective, we believe ExeKiller will bring some unforgettable moments.

EXEKILLER is said to be released in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Delta Force: Hawk Ops, NoobFeed

11. Delta Force: Hawk Ops

It is rather unbelievable, but one of the original military shooters from the 90s is having a return. Started as Delta Force back in 1998, the franchise barely had any noteworthy games besides its debut title; however, with the interest of TiMi Group, the series is getting back to its roots. Nowadays, Ready or Not is making the word around its realistic approach to dangerous situations such as terrorist attacks or bank heists; Delta Force: Hawk Ops is aiming for the same quality with more expansive situations. It will be up to you how to approach the dangerous holdouts and strategically move your squad out.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops is expected to arrive sometime in 2024, but we haven’t got an official word from publishers yet, so keep your eyes peeled.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Luna Abyss, NoobFeed

12. Luna Abyss

If you liked how DOOM 2016 was presented, then Luna Abyss is just the game for you. Taking place in space, Luna Abyss drives players into the madness of the protagonist and how she deals with extraordinary stuff that is happening on various planets and vast space. Although I compared it to the DOOM 2016, Luna Abyss’ has a different sort of playstyle, and that is mostly bullet hell rather than being a run-and-gun type of shooter. Nevertheless, it is one of the strong contestants for this year’s FPS games.

Luna Abyss is expected to arrive at the end of 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, I.G.I. Origins, NoobFeed

13. I.G.I. Origins

Here’s a shooter that takes military action rather authentically. I.G.I. Origins is about a soldier who was tasked to take out the opposing force in the Cold War, basically making it a shooter that is roughly based on the 1980s timeline. In I.G.I. Origins, players can strategize their approach to the enemy base camp and use different combinations of 80s-era weapons. The gameplay is similar to the one we can find in the Sniper series; however, the tone of I.G.I. Origins is darker and more unforgiving.

The game has no proper release date, but we are expecting to see it being released in 2024. The last time we heard about the title was when PS5 and Xbox Series X|S were in the development phase, so it is most likely that it is reaching its full-release date.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Bears in Space, NoobFeed

14. Bears in Space

Bears in Space might be the trippiest and the strangest game in our list of shooters. Although the title seems rather self-explanatory, taking a look at the game reveals Bears in Space is a whole different league. Unlike a linear shooter with a storyline, Bears in Space is an arena shooter with lots of different weapons to choose from. Not only that but there are also boss fights with bullet-hell aspects to keep you on the edge of your seat.

With lots of customization, jokes, and saturated colors, Bears in Space is an optimal title for the person who likes fast-paced shooters. The title is expected to arrive on March 22nd, 2024, with early access currently being available for only selected people.

BONUS! - Boomer Shooters

Did you really think we’d keep boomer shooters out of the list? Of course not! Since our last article about Boomer Shooters did well, we also decided to include some retro-shooters that are going to be released this year as well. Thanks to Steam and its community, finding upcoming boomer shooters was easy because of the newly added “boomer shooter” tag on Steam. It has certainly become a real deal rather than a fad that would get erased in a few weeks of time.

Let’s see what kind of titles will remind us of the old days.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, SELACO, NoobFeed

One of the titles that I am looking forward to playing personally. SELACO might seem like any other boomer shooter out there, but here is the catch. All the promotional showcases might trick you into thinking it is running on Unity or Godot. The trick is it all runs on a modified Doom engine, the same one from 1995, which is mind-blowing. Placing sentries, aiming down the sights, extremely fluent graphics, and more can be found in SELACO.

It is still astonishing that developers can achieve advanced mechanics in an old engine and provide a good-looking game at the same time. SELACO will be available on the PC platform on the 31st of May, 2024.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Phantom Fury, NoobFeed

2. Phantom Fury

One of the most well-known companies to advance the first-person shooter games was 3D Realms. They returned with the release of Ion Fury a few years ago, and since Ion Fury did receive well, we were anticipating a return of the series. To our surprise, 3D Realms will provide us with the sequel, but in 3D instead of their famous DukeEngine. It will look completely different from the first game while keeping its core aesthetics, guns, and characters. You can even spot the trademarked DukeEngine aesthetics if you squint yours as well.

Players can expect to get mad and destroy everything in their path in Phantom Fury this year. Unfortunately, there is no exact date on when it's going to get released.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Agent 64: Spies Never Die, NoobFeed

3. Agent 64: Spies Never Die

Okay, here’s a cool idea that we have never seen before, although it was in front of us for a very long time. There is no doubt the FPS games in N64 have been considered rather unique, especially the ones from Rare. The other developers, such as Iguana, had their own style, but Rare’s FPS games were quite popular back in the day. Obviously, one of them was GoldenEye 007, but we shouldn’t forget about Perfect Dark as well.

Here’s my hot take: GoldenEye 007 can be only seen through the nostalgia glasses; the game has aged well and is rough around the edges, not to mention the inconsistent framerate makes it unbearable to play. However, Agent 64: Spies Never Die is here to fix those issues. Completely made from the ground up with the N64 shooters in mind, the title has everything from Weapon Bob to graphics inspired by that era. With good framerate and keyboard-mouse movement, Agent 64: Spies Never Die will make you say, “This is the right Goldeneye 007 to play." It is expected to arrive in 2024, but it is only exclusive to the PC platform.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Project Warlock: Lost Chapters, NoobFeed

4. Project Warlock: Lost Chapters

There aren’t many games that take inspiration from the grandfather of the shooter genre: Wolfenstein. With its slidey controls and slow gameplay, replicating a shooter based on Wolfenstein takes quite a bit of effort. Since Wizordum, a game that showcased that it's possible, many other developers jumped on the bandwagon. Project Warlock: Lost Chapters is one of the games that take the core of Wolfenstein 3D and turn into a dungeon crawler- with guns and wizardry- in space!

Project Warlock: Lost Chapters is a passionate project, and we are sure that it will do well once it gets released to the PC platform. Unfortunately, we do not have an exact date. However, we can surely see a 2024 release.

First Person Shooter, Upcoming, 2024, List, Action, First Person, Shooter, Mouse, NoobFeed

5. Mouse

The art deco phase of the 1920s and 1930s is returning; there is no doubt about that. One of the first instances to trigger it was Disney’s Mickey being in the public domain in 2024. In fact, some people saw the opportunity and made a horror game where we could see Mickey as the monster. Although Mickey is an entity on its own, the art style of the 1920s isn’t trademarked at all; therefore, we can see titles such as Mouse. Mouse is an in-development black-and-white boomer shooter with a 1920s theme.

We, as a mouse, try to fend off the mafioso and fight our way through- the main is unknown, but once the game gets released, we’ll know why our detective mouse friend is having a shootout with the mouse mafia. Definitely one of the titles you should add to your wishlist.
