Top Ubisoft Executives Leave The Company, Co-Founder Yves Guillemot Takes Over as CCO

Massive changes are coming to Ubisoft

By Grayshadow, Posted 11 Jul 2020

During the recent wave of sexual allegations towards figures within the video game industry, Ubisoft had a lot of people pointing their fingers that the company's executives and other employees. Figures included the Chief Creative Officer Serge Hascoët. Today, Ubisoft released an official letter committing to significant workplace change with 3 major figures leaving the company.

The first was Serge Hascoët who resigned from his position as Chief Creative Officer. This is a major role as Hascoët had the power to outright cancel a project. His position will be handled by the co-founder of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot.

Yannis Mallat, managing director at Ubisoft's Canadian studios, will also step down from his position along with Global Head of HR Cecile Cornet. Cornet's resignation, according to the letter, was for the benefit of the company but according to a recent letter, it may have been out of response for HR demanding that exoneration for the recent wave to accusations.

According to the letter:

“Ubisoft has fallen short in its obligation to guarantee a safe and inclusive workplace environment for its employees. This is unacceptable, as toxic behaviors are in direct contrast to values on which I have never compromised — and never will. I am committed to implementing profound changes across the Company to improve and strengthen our workplace culture,” said Yves Guillemot, CEO and Co-Founder of Ubisoft. “Moving forward, as we collectively embark on a path leading to a better Ubisoft, it is my expectation that leaders across the Company manage their teams with the utmost respect. I also expect them to work to drive the change we need, always thinking of what is best for Ubisoft and all its employees.”

Ubisoft will likely have a statement ready for July 12th for their Ubisoft Forward presentation. Which will reveal Far Cry 6 officially along with information about future of The Division 2, and likely release dates for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and Watch Dogs Legion.

Ubisoft has been in a lot of hot water lately ever since the release of Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The game was an unfinished mess and Ubisoft delayed Watch Dogs Legion to prevent another situation like it. Coupled with this massive shift in leadership and the leaks hinting at the release of major games from the company Ubisoft really needs to turn it around.
