While Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are still a ways away, manufacturers have already started to try and elbow themselves into the market. One of the first companies to light the beacons of capitalism is Audeze.

For those unaware, Audeze is a premium brand of audio hardware, such as expensive, high quality headsets. For the next generation of consoles, the manufacturer will procure a line of two new headsets, dubbed Audeze Penrose, as a series. Below is a list of specifications for the technology savvy along among you:

- Audeze 100mm planar magnetic drivers
- Broadcast quality microphone
- 2.4GHz lossless low-latency wireless
- Bluetooth 5.0 (SBC and AAC)
- Audeze HQ mobile and desktop app with custom EQ and sidetone toggling

The microphone in particular seems lofty. Everyone knows those headset mics are usually tin cans, but not only does Audeze expect quality, the microphone will also have built-in noise cancelling, up to 20db, to ensure a cleaner sound. The wireless headset will come with a USB dongle that can connect to both current consoles and next gen, as well as regular computers.

There are two variants of the Penrose headset, one for each console, though it comes with some careful reading. For instance, the Penrose will work on Sony hardware, as well as Mac and Windows. For the Penrose X, however, the compatibility beyond Xbox consoles only extends to Windows, but not Mac.

Preorders for the Penrose series headphones start now at $249.99. That price is a discount. Up to one thousand preorders will receive this early bird special, after which the regular retail price of $299.99 applies. It's an expensive purchase, but many audiophiles swear by Audeze, so the brand can certainly bank on reputation. Headsets will ship in September 2020.
