Sony Officially Announces State of Play, But Fans Are Disappointed

A State of Play from Sony has been announced for later this week, but it is missing one expected reveal that is angering fans.

In an announcement from PlayStation's Twitter page, the upcoming State of Play is set to debut on August 6, confirming previous rumors. This event will not only cover long-awaited titles for the upcoming PlayStation 5 but will feature those coming to the PS4 and PSVR. The previously announced PS5 indie and 3rd party games such as Bugsnax will be revisited, but the Tweet was sure to tell fans that no new information regarding the PlayStation 5 would be revealed.

This broadcast is set to begin at 1 pm Pacific/4 pm EST, and the company promises a focus on upcoming PS4 and PSVR games. This means that fans could learn more details about the upcoming Marvel's Avenger's game, which has been in the works for a few years. While this is great news for players who have been eagerly awaiting more information, the lack of PS5 information is certainly a letdown for many.

While a majority of the comments are excited about the State of Play announcement, some fans have complained about the lack of PS5 information. But one Twitter user, @kidwawvy, pointed out "It's a state of play. Why would there be a big PS5 announcement?" Although it is understandable that many players are hoping for a price or pre-order date for Sony's upcoming console, the company has clearly stated their intentions. During past State of Play events, Sony focused specifically on upcoming games, hence the name. Therefore, it would be out of character, not to mention out of tradition, to mention any PS5 details in a show that focuses on future games.

However, with a vague release date of Holiday 2020, many fans are wondering when Sony will reveal the price or pre-order options for the upcoming console. Although many PS5 exclusive games' release dates point to a November launch, nothing has been confirmed from Sony, aside from the console's technological specifications. Until more information is confirmed, fans will have to continue expecting a holiday release, whenever that may be.

The State of Play later this week, despite its lack of PS5 information, will undoubtedly be an interesting debut of new trailers, possible gameplay, and announcements for the current PS4 system. These kinds of announcements are beneficial for those who do not have the money to save for a next-generation console but are hoping to get new releases in the near future. The 40 minute show will be streamed live on PlayStation's Twitch and Youtube Channels.
