Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Video Game Returns for 10 Year Anniversary

After months of teases and years of waiting, Ubisoft surprised fans at its Ubisoft Forward event with a complete edition of Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

In 2005, Bryan Lee O'Malley introduced the world to a unique character with unexplained powers, Scott Pilgrim. This superpowered young adult meets and falls in love with a girl named Ramona Flowers, who has seven evil exes that separate Pilgrim from being with the girl of his dreams.

In 2010, a movie based on Pilgrim's battle with Ramona's exes released, and was well received as a goofy, yet enthralling, title. Later in the same year, a side-scrolling 'beat-'em-up" game allowed players to step into Scott Pilgrim's shoes, fighting for Ramona against her evil exes.

The game quickly became a fan favorite, incorporating old-school beat 'em up mechanics (like picking up furniture to throw at enemies) with a detailed story and smooth fighting mechanics. Players were able to purchase in-game upgrades at the store to defeat their enemies in new and interesting ways.

However, in 2014, the game was delisted from the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, most likely due to the expiration of the liscence. With this, a favorite game for players worldwide seemingly disappeared from the world.

Even though no new Pilgrim content has been released since the delisting, the community has  been strong and persistent about when the game would see the light of day once more. Thanks to Ubisoft, it seems that this dream will be coming true later in 2020.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World Returns

During the second Ubisoft Forward event of 2020, one of the company's surprise announcements was the return of Scott Pilgrim vs The World, in all of its 8-bit glory. The creator of the universe, Bryan Lee O'Malley, took to Twitter, thanking his fans for their dedication and continued interest in the character.

Rumors about the game's return have been circling the internet for months, especially after Ubisoft replied to O'Malley's Twitter plea for the game to return. Ubisoft had replied with a thinking face emoji, sparking the flame of Scott Pilgrim once more for fans.

The idea of a re-released game began to grow, especially after the film's director brought the cast together for a 10-year anniversary, where they performed a table read for charity.

Although no news about the game was confirmed at this read, O'Malley revealed that Ubisoft had reached out to him last month, but he refused to discuss their interaction. Now it seems that the Ubisoft deal has paid off, and players will be able to fight the seven evil exes all over again.

This complete edition, set to launch in Holiday 2020, features the entire original story, as well as previously released DLC characters such as Knives Chau and Wallace Wells. The game will launch for Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One later this year.
