The Pokemon Company has announced its plans for the Pokemon series' 25th anniversary celebrating the original 1996 release on the Gameboy. In an interesting turn of events, the main collaboration will be music focused in a team up with Universal Music Group (UMG) and headlined by pop star Katy Perry. The anniversary will not just celebrate the games, but the franchise as a whole including anime, apps, and other merchandise. While Perry will be the top liaison of this project, the program will feature UMG’s music artists of all status and experience. Colin Palmer, VP of Marketing for the Pokemon Company, remarked that Perry’s uplifting music was a perfect match for the Nintendo brand.
Perry herself has stated that she is an avid Pokemon fan and excited to be heading the anniversary. The singer started with the Gameboy classic and dabbled in the trading card game. She also claims to still be playing Pokemon GO in her free time.
