Twitch Purges Over 7.5 Million Accounts

Twitch on a campaign to take down bot accounts

By Grayshadow, Posted 15 Apr 2021

Twitch is a host of many problems but one of the major recent issues is the rise of bot accounts. Users have been reporting millions of subs in just a few hours, which sounds great but in reality, are just bot accounts. With Twitch banning 7.5 million accounts in a purge.

Twitch,NoobFeed,

????? We have been monitoring the rise of fake engagement on Twitch and have identified 7.5MM+ accounts that break our TOS by follow-botting and view-botting. We are taking action on these accounts and appreciate all of the reports about this issue.

While this sounds promising it's the prevention of this happening again that users are wondering about. Twitch hasn't provided insight into what they plan to do and it's likely that actual users will get caught in the crossfire. Twitch is notorious for banning people for on the fly rule changes without reasoning, with appeals being near impossible as shown with their new aggressive DMCA takedowns for music.

Twitch has also not responded to the evidence circulating that certain users are using the platform to send links to personal adult industry content using the platform.
