Konami has released a statement that they will not be attending E3 2021. This year’s E3 is planned for mid-June and will be strictly virtual and online. This comes less than two weeks after the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), hosts of the E3 conference, announced that Konami would be there this year. However, Konami may have changed their minds in the interim time. In the official announcement, Konami stated that the timing is just not right for the company. They also reassured fans that they are still working on key projects and that they wish ESA the best of luck with the rest of the conference. ESA responded that they understand Konami’s decision to pull out and hope that they can return for E3 2022.

The COVID-19 pandemic and financial fallout has put pressure on many game studios in the last two years. E3 2020 was completely canceled, with most studios making separate live broadcasts. Other companies like Ubisoft, Capcom, Nintendo, and Microsoft and confirmed attendance this year, but it is still possible that they could back out too.
