Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced, in an investor presentation, that Nintendo will not be doing a large-scale E3 press conference this year. Instead the company will be featuring “smaller events specifically focused on software titles for the U.S. market”. One event will be held for American distributors and another will be a closed event targeted at the Western gaming media. In addition Iwata stated that Nintendo has no plan to announce any new hardware at this E3 and will be instead highlighting software.
After Nintendo’s recent financial history it’s logical that Nintendo wants to boost sales within oversea markets. In addition with profits at only half of what was expected perhaps skipping a large and expensive presentation at E3 would be wise. Nintendo Direct announcements are just as effective and much more affordable.
