Sonic the Hedgehog we all know and love is back into the action with a new platformer. After Sonic Mania, Sonic Superstars is going to be the next proper 2D platformer in the series. Instead of focusing on the old look like Sonic Mania, SEGA now mixes the both 3D and 2D look, something they did in the past before but had hard time being relevant compared to its main 3D games at the time.
Sonic Superstars, at its core, will be the same as the first three games of Sonic the Hedgehog. Platforming, being fast and defeating Dr. Eggman for his bad deeds. During Sonic’s quest, his friends Tails, Knuckles and Amy will aid him along the way. This is the first time we see Amy being implemented in an all-four cast, as previous games were usually between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles.
Interesting part of Sonic Superstars will include co-op gameplay too. You will be able to play up to four people, local or online, which should be filled with lots of fun times. It is highly reminiscent of the co-op playthroughs of Super New Mario games on Nintendo consoles. Sonic Superstars will include minigames just like in old Sonic games with blue balls section and pinball area, and it will include new extra stuff like a wall-ride mode and squid race.
We all know how SEGA has been all in front recently with their releases, but after Sonic Frontiers’ release, they got quiet for a long time until they revealed an April Fools spinoff game called The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, which was ultimately a hit between fans despite being a free, non-serious, non-cannon game.
Sonic Superstars was showcased in the Summer Game Fest recently and it is expected to arrive during the fall season this year. It will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Physical and cloud versions will be available at launch. If you are seeking for a fun time with your friends and kids, don’t forget to keep an eye out for Sonic Superstars.
