Much like how Mario is to Nintendo, Rayman is another iconic character in gaming that was once the face of Ubisoft, but sadly, for some time now the orange character hasn't had much spotlight though things seem to be looking brighter. Davide Soliani, who you may know as the creative director behind Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, has expressed a significant amount of interest in reviving the franchise and making a Rayman game.

As mentioned earlier, it's been a while since we've seen Rayman appear in any major releases. He did make an appearance in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope's third and Final DLC, titled "Rayman in the Phantom Show" which launched back in August 2023, where the titular character appears in various movie genre themed realms. Many fans adored the DLC as this was the first time in well over a decade since the character had a starring role, even though it was only as a DLC character for a crossover game. As for mainline game appearances, Rayman made his last appearance in Rayman Legends, which released back in 2013, the game was loved by many and even saw a definitive re-release in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch.

Davide Soliani expressed his desire to make a new Rayman game in an interview with NintendoEverything. During this interview he was asked if he was working on another project that would feature the character, here Soliani said that if he was given the chance to do so, he would take it. The director also noted that because the character is so heavily stylized and not tied to realism, the team could go wild with creating the different environments and enemies for the possible game. He also noted that he and his team had the same level of creative freedom when working on Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, which is why DLC features such stunning designs.

Soliani has quite the interesting relationship with the character, as one of the very first games he ever worked on was 1995’s Rayman. The director had hoped that withMario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope’s final DLC that he was successfully able to rally together the many longtime Rayman fans. With the third and final DLC for Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope being released, this will hopefully be enough of a sign to Ubisoft that gamers want to see more of their once famous mascot in his own standalone after years of being absent.
