The Mortal Kombat series first debut in 1992 and has a rich history of easter eggs and hidden secrets. From hidden content such as Reptile to legends like the “Kano Transformations”. Fans have spent years and thousands of quarters trying to unlock these hidden secrets and it seems that one fan has continued the tradition, finding another secret almost 20 years later.

Going by the name of ZpaulFreshB, this user has found way to access the rumored “EJB menus” on the arcade hardware of the first three Mortal Kombat games. The existence of this screen has always been known, through ROM data diving, no one knew how to access it till now. It takes lightning quick input commands, remaining loyal to the difficulty of unlocking other secrets in Mortal Kombat, on both Player 1 and Player 2 sides.

This screen doesn’t unlock a new character like Noob Sabot or any other character but contains a special “hello” message to some of Ed Boon’s friends. you can add your initials at the top of ranking board and see all the character endings, which would’ve proved useful 20 years ago.

The secret isn’t the most exciting but shows that these classic games may have more secrets waiting to be uncovered. Maybe the original Street Fighter has more secrets?
