Today, Nintendo has just revealed a new handheld system, the Nintendo 2DS XL. The newly-redesigned handheld is scheduled to release on June 15 in Australia and July 28 in the USA. What would appear to be a mix between the 2DS and the 3DS XL, is sure to bridge the gap for those on the fence. At a price point at $150 / AUD $200, Nintendo’s newest piece of hardware looks to capitalize on their current momentum.
The Nintendo 2DS XL will also be released the same day as two big games for the 3DS, Hey PIKMIN and Miitopia.
“This new addition to Nintendo’s portable hardware line demonstrates our commitment to the hand-held market,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “New Nintendo 2DS XL sports a beautiful clamshell design and offers a great balance between price and performance.”
The 2DS XL will comes available in black/turquois (the white and orange colors are to be sold in Japan and Europe) and has the same screen size as the 3DS XL handheld. The system also sports a built in NFC reader for amiibo figures, a small control stick on the right and has a lighter frame to boot.
