Since the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 loot boxes have entered a fierce debate. Are they gambling, should they be included in the rating systems, and much more. The purchase of randomized chest for real-world money has left a massive sore on the gaming community with games like Need for Speed: Payback, Forza Motorsport 7, and Middle-earth: Shadow of War heavily criticized for having them. However, gamers should find it relieving that Far Cry 5 won't feature loot boxes.
Far Cry 5 will feature microtransactions called Silver Bars, the game's currency. These items can be used to purchase prestige weapons, vehicles, clothes, and skins using Silver Bars. Silver Bars can be purchased using real-world money or earned in the game but how much Silver Bars will cost or if there is a finite amount of them in the game hasn't been disclosed.
What do you think? Is are microtransactions any better than loot boxes or are all purchasable items put into a triple-a full price game reason for vexation? Let us know your opinion in the comments below!
In addition, Ubisoft recently announced a short film coming out before Far Cry 5 taking place before the game.
Far Cry 5 is set to launch on March 27 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
