The switch to a premium service after offering the online features for free was met with backlash when Sony unveiled the PlayStation Plus service. However, the service has grown significantly thanks to its debut to offer free games and the massive popularity of the PS4. During a financial call for the end of the fiscal year on March 31st, 2018 Sony confirmed PlayStation Plus subscriptions have risen to 34.2 million.
This is 2.7 million higher than the previous fiscal year and giving the PS4 has sold over 70 million consoles this number isn't unexpected.
For those unaware, PlayStation Plus gives players access to online gaming on PS4 along with a free set of games each one, 10 GB of cloud storage, and exclusive discounts on the PlayStation Store.
Next month PlayStation Plus subscribers will have access to Beyond: Two Souls and Rayman Legends.
