Monster Hunter: World for PC Won't Support Crossplay or Mods at Launch
Producer of Monster Hunter: World Ryozo Tsujimoto explains that stability comes first

Capcom addressed questions about the upcoming PC launch of Monster Hunter: World. Explaining that those looking for mod support and crossplay with console gamers will have to wait longer.
When speaking to PC Gamer producer Ryozo Tsujimoto stated
"I want to synch these up as much as possible, but as mentioned previously regarding title updates, the differences in versions between platforms may prevent them being completely the same time."
"[Balance patches] will be a case-by-case situation. If we find bugs that are happening only on PC for example, or issues arising after a title update, then we would put patches out on each platform as soon as possible. If there was an issue common to all platforms, however, doing it piecemeal would be less preferable than fixing every version at the same time so that everyone has the same experience."
This is a prudent idea given this is the first entry to come to PC. Ensuring the game is stable should take priority and once the developers have a stable handle on the PC version updates such as mod and crossplay should follow.
Monster Hunter: World is now available for Xbox One and PS4. It launches for PC this August 9th.
