Epic Games Store Reaches $680 Million in Player Spending, Plans to Continue Free Game Promotions

Epic Games Store continuing to provide free games into 2020

The Epic Games Store is a heated topic. On one hand it's providing competition to Steam and giving better rates to its developers than Valve. However, Epic Games has been buying timed exclusives to highly anticipated games to encourage players to use the service. A practice many gamers stated is anti-consumer. Even refusing an Indie game developer Wlad Marhulets to sell his game Darq on both Steam and Epic Games when approached by Epic for an exclusive deal.

In a report by Games Industry.biz, Epic Games stated they made $680 million from 180 million PC customers since launching in December 2018.

One of the most popular plans from the Epic Games Store was providing free games every 2 weeks and more games during special events. And they plan to continue to do so.

The program has been successful enough that Epic also announced today it will be offering weekly free games throughout 2020.

The service is entirely free. Unlike Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft who give free games away as part of their premium service Epic requires a free account with their store to download and keep the games. Some incredible titles including the entire Batman Arkham trilogy, SOMA, and Enter the Gungeon.
