GTA VI: Third Trailer, Pre-Orders, and Rockstar’s Inevitable Reveal

From GTA VI’s third trailer to pre-orders and Rockstar’s calculated silence, the countdown to the game’s winter release is already building unstoppable hype.

It has been three months since Rockstar released the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. In that silence, speculation has only grown louder. Fans are now looking ahead, asking the same question. When will the third trailer arrive? And when will pre-orders finally open? The studio, true to form, remains quiet, leaving only fragments of history and patterns to guide expectations.

By looking back, we can find signs. The third trailer for Grand Theft Auto V came out on May 1, 2013, a little more than four months before the game came out on September 17, 2013. For Red Dead Redemption 2, the third video came out on May 3, 2018, five months before the game came out on October 26, 2018. The time is planned. Both titles followed a consistent rhythm: the third trailer marked the beginning of the final push before release.

Pre-orders tell a similar story. GTA V’s pre-orders opened on November 5, 2012, nearly a year before launch, though the game would ultimately be delayed from its initial spring 2013 window to September. On the other hand, pre-orders for RDR2 started in late June 2018, about four months before the game came out. In both cases, Rockstar only gave a short window of time between pre-orders and launch, which was in line with how often it markets its games.

If you apply this case to GTA VI, it gives you an idea of what might happen. The game will definitely happen in May 2026. If Rockstar sticks to what it usually does, the third trailer and pre-orders could come out between November 2025 and January 2026.

This would give the company four to six months to build up momentum before the game comes out. Industry watchers suggest that even if the trailer does not arrive by the end of this year, fans should expect alternative signals: new screenshots, promotional artwork, or other glimpses into the world of Vice City reimagined.

The specter of delay inevitably hangs over any project of this scale. GTA V itself was postponed from spring to fall 2013, with Rockstar only confirming its final date in January of that year. More recently, an ex-Rockstar developer, Obi Vimage, weighed in on speculation that GTA VI could slip into 2027.

His response was clear: Rockstar selected May 2026 deliberately, with confidence, and any adjustment to that timeline would be decided roughly five months before launch. Until December 2025, any rumors of delay remain conjecture.

This silence, calculated as it may be, is part of Rockstar’s strategy. The studio has made a name for itself by keeping material secret until it's the right time. For players, the waiting is part of the excitement; they have to be patient, which makes the final impact stronger. When the next signal arrives, it will not be incremental. It will be decisive.

As things stand, GTA VI will be released in the winter, there will be a pre-order window soon after, and the next video will be the official start of the game's final marketing push. Fans will have to look at Rockstar's patterns, go over its past, and wait for the silence to end until then.

What emerges from this waiting game is a sense of inevitability. GTA VI is closer than it seems. The world will not see it all at once, but the next message is already on its way. The only mystery left is the precise moment Rockstar chooses to speak.
