Insomniac Getting a Lot of Attention as Wolverine, Venom, and Spider-Man 3 Rumors Stir Up

Wolverine, Venom, Spider-Man 3, and Ratchet & Clank could define PlayStation's strongest run yet.

Insomniac Games may be getting ready for what could be one of the most ambitious stretches in recent game history. The company is already a mainstay of PlayStation's first-party lineup, and it looks like it could release a string of big games in a row. In four years, Wolverine, Venom, Spider-Man 3, and a new Ratchet & Clank game would all come out one after the other.

There is no official word on this possible plan yet, but new reports and changing development schedules have led to a lot of talk about it. The main question being discussed is whether Insomniac can truly maintain such a fast pace, and what that would mean for the company and PlayStation players.

Recent reports say that Marvel's Wolverine is aiming for a 2026 release date, which gave rise to the idea. After that, Venom is set to come out, with leaked plans putting it around 2027. If this is true, the program could go on with Spider-Man 3 in 2028 and then Ratchet & Clank again in 2029.

On paper, that means that Insomniac will release at least one big game every year for the next four years. Based on the studio's past work and its ability to manage various teams on different projects, it's not impossible.

But there is still doubt. The development process is complicated, and while Wolverine is likely to hit its mark, Venom and Spider-Man 3 are less certain. Both of those games would need to be finished on time and with little room for error.

Avengers: Wolverine looks like the best bet out of the four games. The game was announced to a lot of excitement, but it has been slowly being worked on for years, and rumors say it's almost done. Talk in the industry suggests that the story will be shorter than in Spider-Man, and the game will probably last between 15 and 20 hours.

In terms of tone and character, that makes Wolverine bold, but not as ambitious in terms of scale. If the game does come out in 2026, it will be the first in a long line of high-profile Marvel games that are sure to get people's attention.

Venom is the one thing that nobody knows for sure. Some reports say it's still in the early stages of development, but other people online say the project is further along than thought. Some people even think it might be almost done, but there isn't any objective evidence to back this up.

If Venom does come out in 2027, it might be about the same size as Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a shorter, more story-focused experience than a full-on game. By doing it this way, Insomniac could get it out faster while still adding to the Spider-Man world.

Still, making a promise for a 2027 release is risky. Any one delay could end the run in a row and completely change the plan.

Getting Spider-Man 3 out by 2028 might be the hardest piece of this puzzle. Insomniac needed five years between the first Spider-Man game (2018) and Spider-Man 2 (2023). That rate of growth would have to be repeated with very good resource management, even if lessons were learned and assets were carried over.

Some of the DLC for Spider-Man 2 that was dropped could be used in later games, which could make things easier. Leaks have hinted at plots with characters like Beetle and parts from the multiverse that could be the basis for Spider-Man 3. It would help the team get going if that's the case.

Still, Insomniac's biggest test would be to match Spider-Man 2's ambitious scale and level of polish in a shorter time frame.

Fans have been waiting for a new Ratchet & Clank game since Rift Apart (2021). It's the last piece in the puzzle. Reports say that Insomniac has had a small team working on ideas in the background, keeping the popular brand alive.

Ratchet & Clank doesn't need as much open world as Spider-Man or Wolverine, but it does need a key tone balance. When it comes out in 2029, it will be a lighter, more colorful, and more finished experience that goes well with Insomniac's Marvel-themed games.

This release would also make the company even more of a leader in Marvel development and the guardian of one of PlayStation's most famous franchises.
