Lollipop Chainsaw Will Return With New Studio

Dragami Games will develop a new title in the hack-and-slash franchise

Yoshimi Yasuda, the former CEO of Japanese video game publisher Kadokawa Games, has teased the return of zombie-slaying cheerleader Juliet Starling (Tara Strong) only a couple of days after Lollipop Chainsaw’s tenth anniversary. Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture Inc. in 2012, in Lollipop Chainsaw players hack-and-slash their way through a zombie-infested Californian high school. Directed by Tomo Ikeda and Goichi Suda (better known as Suda51) and written by Masahiro Yuki and James Gunn (known for Hollywood films like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad), the game was well-received upon release and praised for its comic-book aesthetic and quirky sense of humor.

On June 14th Yasuda Tweeted: “Lollipop Chainsaw is back by Dragami Games. Please look forward to it.” Dragami Games was established in May 2022, inheriting a number of titles including Lollipop Chainsaw, Demon Gaze, and God Wars from Kadokawa Games when Yasuda left the company after 14 years as CEO.

10 years after its release Lollipop Chainsaw remains a cult favorite but unfortunately for fans, it has never been re-released on newer hardware, with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 the only available platforms  No other information has been released about Dragami Games’ Lollipop Chainsaw revival yet so fans will be left to speculate the nature of Juliet Starling’s return. In any case, be it a remake, remaster, or even a sequel, it is a good day to be a Lollipop Chainsaw fan.
