Marvel's Wolverine Release Date in Theory

At the NYCC 2024, when the news was confirmed that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 would not be getting any story DLC, fans of both Insomniac and Marvel were naturally looking forward to their next project, Marvel's Wolverine.

With all the other Marvel games that could have been showcased at New York Comic Con, the only official announcement that came out of it was that Spider-Man 2 would be getting a PC port but no story DLC. This is particularly concerning given that Marvel fans have been waiting for the Spider-Man 2 story DLC since the game launched last year.

It was highly unlikely that two first-party PlayStation games developed by Marvel—Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine—would be showcased at a primary third-party Marvel games conference. This is just a fancy way of saying that the future of these Marvel games is completely unpredictable.

Insomniac Games is getting ready to reveal more about Marvel's Wolverine. Though we have heard tidbits of Marvel's Wolverine game here and there throughout the years, the last time we saw anything official was in September 2021, when the trailer for the game was unveiled.

We have all been eagerly anticipating the reveal of Marvel's Wolverine in 2021 and the release of the fully developed game on the PS5 ever since, and that time might very well be coming soon. Of course, this follows last year's hacking incident at Insomniac Games, which leaked an array of unpolished Marvel's Wolverine gameplay footage. Naturally, the leaked gameplay footage of Marvel's Wolverine from early in development was far from the final product. 

Sony, on the other hand, maybe getting ready to unveil some new Wolverine content with the PS5 Pro release. The exact date is something I'm not good at predicting, but we're assuming it will be this year. Some secret, unexpected event, or at the Game Awards event, maybe. We already know that the PS5 Pro will officially launch in November, so that's something to consider as well.

The most recent PlayStation hardware, the PS5 Pro, should have a gameplay video of Marvel's Wolverine running by the time we see more of him in action. It would demonstrate the specific improvements that the PS5 Pro may bring to a game like Wolverine and further encourage gamers to invest in the console.

Basically, there are a lot of ways that Insomniac, Marvel, and PlayStation may unveil more Wolverine gameplay. The most intriguing part of this revelation, though, is that PlayStation will formally celebrate their 30th anniversary in December. This is mainly due to the fact that PlayStation is usually present at that event.

Additionally, there is a possibility of a separate PlayStation showcase-like event either before or after the Game Awards. With this, PlayStation could commemorate their 30th anniversary in style while also showcasing a plethora of other games in development.

Whether it goes down to a PlayStation Showcase or something more formal like the Game Awards is up in the air. No matter what, I believe it's about time we got more Marvel's Wolverine. Moreover, most PlayStation and Marvel Games fans would be satisfied if, before the year 2024 ends, they finally got to see some official gameplay of Marvel's Wolverine.
