Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater looks amazing in the preview.

When it was first released on the PlayStation 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 was groundbreaking. Following the success of previous titles in the series, it did anything but disappoint. Konami has unveiled a preview of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which appears to be a faithful remake of the original. Having played the classic Metal Gear Solid games on the PS Vita, I can say that Snake has never looked better in his modern Unreal Engine 5 form.

It seems Konami is trying to cash in on the success Capcom has been seeing with its Resident Evil Remakes, i.e., Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4. While the first two remakes were overhauls, the third one remained faithful to the original in terms of gameplay while keeping a massive graphical overhaul.

It seems Konami has placed their bets on Metal Gear Solid 3’s gameplay being solid enough in the year of the lord 2024 because the first unveiled preview feels like a 1:1 recreation of the original, just with incredible graphics.

It has been a solid minute since I have played Metal Gear Solid 3, but if my memory serves me right, we are in for a good time with this remake. Maybe it is a good sign that there are no considerable changes to the gameplay because I would hate to see a fan-favorite title from a beloved franchise be butchered by modern mechanics, especially since Hideo Kojima was not involved in the making of this.

The visuals of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater do have me concerned about the performance. I mean, the cost of seeing Naked Snake in stunning 4K has to come at a steep price, right? Well, there have been reports that state the console variants of the game will have a fidelity mode that targets 4K at 30 fps and a performance mode that targets 1080p at 60 fps.

One thing that strikes me is the lack of high refresh rate support at 1080p; I feel current hardware should be capable of that, especially with PS5 Pro right around the corner.

Regarding possible release dates, I would watch the upcoming State of Play in September for an update. Several leaks suggest we will see some big gaming announcements at that event, and it is not unreasonable to expect a release date of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater among that bunch, either.
