Uncharted series and The Last of Us have brought enormous fame to Naughty Dog. When producing top-notch third-person games, they rank among the industry's elite. But there have been rumors that a first-person adventure could potentially be in the works for Naughty Dog's next game.

There has been talk in the studio's job posting that a first-person approach may be in the studio's next project, and one essential skill mentioned in the advertisement for a new single-player game is prior expertise in first-person action-adventure games. This excited several individuals since the well-known PlayStation company Naughty Dog has dropped indications about a possible new approach for their next game.

Naughty Dog FPS Game, The Last of Us III

Even though Naughty Dog is usually associated with third-person games, this particular aspect strikes out. Recently, Neil Druckmann has said categorically that The Last of Us will not be their next game, not an Uncharted game. Reports about their next title suggest it might be set in a fantastical or science-fiction world. Everything points to a fresh intellectual property becoming their future game. This game has been developed since 2020. Therefore, we could see a reveal this year.

It may seem the company is trying to cover all bases by looking at applicants with first-person or third-person gaming expertise, but there are grounds to think there could indicate a change in attitude. Specifically, during the 2018 DICE Summit, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann said that the company is fully receptive to looking into first-person gameplay. He went so far as to say that the developers explored using a first-person perspective before switching to the more common third-person view for The Last of Us.

Furthermore, it has been confirmed in yet another job advertisement that Naughty Dog is still using the Havok Engine for the physics of its games. This might mean the studio is experimenting with new forms of expression while remaining faithful to its technical legacy. It is still unknown if Naughty Dog's next project will be first-person, but given their track record, there's little doubt they could pull it off. Their track record of producing top-notch video games has convinced me that they can explore and succeed at everything they set their minds to. So why not?
