Sony confirmed the beta for the next major update for the PlayStation 4, version 4.50, starts today. Sony also revealed what the update will include when it goes public.

Most significantly the update brings HDD support, a much-demanded addition to the PS4. This means that you can plug an external hard drive to your PS4 without having to rely on the internal hard drive or cloud storage that's only available to PlayStation Plus subscribers. The update will be compatible with up to 8TB size and USB 3.0 hard drives. You can now set any screenshot as a wallpaper for your PS4.
Update 4.50 also comes with improvements to PS4 Quick Menu feature which will cover less of your gameplay screen, access Party features without transitioning into a separate Party application.
An efficient notification list has been included to condense the previously long list of updates, downloads, game alerts, and other notifications. You'll be also able to quickly access the Notification settings from the Options Menu to turn off or customize what you want appearing.
Lastly, you will be able to post into the Activity Feed directly and view 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PSVR headset.
According to Sony, more features are coming to 4.50 but this is all they decided to share today.
