Last week Sucker Punch confirmed that Ghost of Yōtei will be released in 2025. Even though PlayStation loves to keep most of the details secret until the release date is near, the confirmation that Ghost of Yōtei will be available on PlayStation 5 later this year was good enough for most fans. However, thanks to some fans, we now have some new information from the game's official PlayStation page. Even if this isn't much of a new information, it's still enough for us to be excited.
Ghost of Yōtei's PlayStation page cites that the game takes place three hundred years after Ghost of Tsushima. This time, we play as Atsu, a warrior seeking revenge for her family's deaths. Determined and furious, she sets out on a dangerous mission to track down the criminals. Players now will have more control over how they control her path because she does side quests and bounty hunts to fund her goal. How you fight, survive, and build her reputation is entirely up to the players.
The game takes place in the wild, snow-covered forests around Mount Yōtei, a stunning mountain in northern Japan. In 1603, this area was considered a wild frontier, with its wide meadows, cold tundras, and unexpected dangers. Based on what we currently know, Ghost of Yōtei is expected to have a more complicated open world than the previous game. The goal of this game is to create a visual masterpiece. Under the direction of first-party studio Sucker Punch, expect amazing scenery, realistic wind-blown leaves, and a sky full of bright lights and glittering stars.
The game was made specifically for the PlayStation 5, which has improved graphics and performance on the PS5 Pro. One of Ghost of Yōtei's most exciting features is the improved weapons. Unlike Ghost of Tsushima, where players mostly used a Katana, the sequel offers lots of new options. According to the PlayStation page, Atsu will be able to use the Odachi, a massive, heavy blade with powerful strokes; Kusarigama, a chained sickle with numerous uses and flexibility; and Dual Katana, two deadly, quick swords for quick, powerful combat.
Players will be able to choose their own fighting style that best suits the way they like to take on enemies, which is due to the wider battle system that these weapons provide. Hopefully, Sucker Punch will find a decent balance between them, making the game fun and easy to play. Even if some of this information was hinted at in the trailers, it's great to get official confirmation. Ghost of Yōtei appears to be an interesting extension of the Ghost of Tsushima model, with a more flexible battle style, a range of weapons, and unique habitats.
The revenge-driven plot may be interesting if it ends well. With a setting similar to the Japanese Wild West, this may be one of the most unique PlayStation exclusives in years. How excited are you about Ghost of Yōtei? Let's see what Sucker Punch has for us.
