Bethesda's space epic may finally reach PlayStation users in time for its second expansion—and it's already stirring up drama all over again.

Bethesda's massive space RPG Starfield might be getting ready to take off on the PlayStation 5. According to a new story from MP1st, the game will now come out on Sony's platform in the spring of 2026. If it's true, this would happen at the same time as the release of Starfield's second big expansion. Microsoft is said to be counting on this to win back people's trust after Shattered Space got mixed reviews.

The choice to put off a PS5 version until after 2025 seems to have something to do with how well that expansion does. Microsoft employees thought Shattered Space would get more attention and play, but it allegedly didn't live up to their hopes. Now, the company seems to be trying something new by releasing Starfield on PS5 along with a second update that might be more interesting.

Even though neither Xbox nor Bethesda has said for sure, the idea that Starfield could come out on PS5 shouldn't come as a surprise at this point. The numbers show that Xbox was the top publisher on PlayStation during the last financial quarter. This shows that the company is quickly switching to a multiplatform approach. With this much energy, it seems likely that more Xbox games will make their way to PS5, and Starfield is a great example.

Still, people who have been following the business for a long time can see how ironic this situation is. The first launch of Starfield caused a lot of debate, some of which was fair and some of which was silly. As soon as it was reported that the game would only be available on Xbox, people started arguing about which console was better. People on social media made fun of everything, from the font size to the way the menus worked.

What's worse is that a lot of those complaints came from people who had no plans to ever play the game, especially on PlayStation. There were reports that Starfield might only be available on the PS5, and some PlayStation fans were pleased about it. But as soon as it was announced that the game would only be available on Xbox and PC, some people quickly changed their minds and called it a disaster before they even saw it in action.

During the launch period, there were a lot of crazy opinions and rumors. People on both sides of the platform either panned the game or gave it too much attention, which killed it. So, what will happen if Starfield does make it to PS5 and does well? That would be one of the most beautiful turns of events I can remember.

The opinion on the game itself is still somewhere in the middle. Starfield isn't the genre-defining epic Xbox fans may have hoped for, but it's also not the terrible game that some reviews said it was. Like many Bethesda RPGs, it's a good game that does a lot of things well, but it's not as good as Fallout or The Elder Scrolls.

There's still a lot to do here, from exploring and making ships to going from planet to planet and playing politics between factions. Even though Starfield isn't a completely new take on the RPG genre, it does add a sci-fi twist to a familiar Bethesda experience. The game has strong features and a deep world-building. The story sometimes feels disconnected, but those who stick with it will be rewarded.

To sum up, if Starfield comes out on PS5, it will not only be a win for cross-platform strategy, but it might also give PlayStation fans a chance to finally decide the game on its own merits, without the chaos that surrounded its original release.
