Take-Two Dropped Hints On Future GTA 6 Delay Past May 2026

For months, Rockstar Games said that GTA 6 would come out in 2025, but now they've officially pushed the date back to May 26, 2026. Fans who were looking forward to the next game in the famous open-world series were disappointed by the news, but Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, thinks the delay is both necessary and good.

In an interview with a news outlet, Zelnick said that the delays are "painful," but he still strongly supported the decision. He said that Rockstar's main goal is still to "achieve its creative vision with no limitations," and that extra time was needed for GTA 6's development to reach that level of perfection.

"As we got closer to finishing a title that wants to be perfect, it became clear whether or not it needed more polishing," Zelnick said. "We thought there was a chance with a small amount of extra time to make sure Rockstar Games could fully realize its creative vision in this case." And, of course, I agreed with that approach.

He went on, "There are delays, and they hurt me; how could they not? But the most important thing is to help your teams get better." In Take-Two's fourth quarter fiscal year 2025 earnings report, Zelnick talked about the delay again and said that giving Rockstar more time was a "worthy investment."

He said that the company is "really happy" with how fiscal 2026 is going and is still sure about the updated release plan. Now that a firm release date has been set, many fans are wondering if GTA VI will be delayed again. While Zelnick didn't make any firm promises, he did sound cautiously optimistic.

"In the past, when we set a date, we've usually been very good about keeping it," he told IGN. When asked why Take-Two felt it was okay to announce the date a year ahead of time, Zelnick said, "We thought it was important to reassure people that it is coming, and picking a specific date makes that point stand out."

Even though they are sure of themselves, the sheer size of the project still makes people nervous. Some people in the game industry are still not sure if GTA VI will be able to meet even the May 2026 deadline. The game is expected to be one of the biggest and most ambitious ever.

"Do not be shocked," said one commentator. If we find out that this game won't be coming out until September 2026, don't be shocked or even let down. Even so, Take-Two's official message is still clear: GTA VI is coming, Rockstar is aiming for perfection, and the date set for now is May 26, 2026.
