The Next DC WB Games Will Extend Batman Franchise
It looks like work is heating up on the next DC Universe game.

In August 2024, there were rumors that Warner Bros. might sell its stake in Warner Bros. Games. The unexpected failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Gotham Knights shook the studio, and these two games made them worry about their next project. If that fails, they are in real trouble, just like Ubisoft. So, judging by WB Games Montreal's recruitment activities, development work for the upcoming DC Universe game appears to be heating up. The studio is reportedly bringing on a senior producer for a AAA game based on the DC Comics universe.
Earlier job postings indicated that WB Games Montreal is seeking to broaden its DC Comics collection. After WB Games Montreal announced a lead gameplay programmer position, the studio revealed that it is extending its DC Comics portfolio. Both of these announcements come after a disappointing performance by Gotham Knights in 2022 and the subsequent job ad for a senior producer, followed by the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
So, it's clear that WB Montreal is desperately looking for the right talents for its upcoming DC Universe game. From Batman: Arkham Asylum to Batman: Arkham Knight, they haven't seen the sweet taste of success from any games. Even though Hogwarts Legacy did reasonably well by selling 22 million copies in 2023, Mortal Kombat 1 only sold four million copies, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League half a million, and Gotham Knights 5.1 million copies. However, even collectively, all four of these games sold what The Arkham series collectively sold, which is 32 million copies.
When Batman: Arkham game came out in 2013, WB Games Montreal was in better days, and the financial achievement was beyond the reach of the games that came after that series. So it's desperate times for WB Games. Although the lack of detail provided by the job posting doesn't reveal much, it is intriguing to note that Rocksteady is reportedly reteaming with the Batman franchise and that Sony is purportedly attempting to get an exclusive deal for the project. It is currently unknown whether this listing is associated with that supposed project. And it really has to be a Batman game. No other superhero would make the amount of anticipation than a new Batman game.
