The Sims 5 – Where Are We Left Now?

Anxiety for The Sims 5’s development grows.

It seems like The Sims 5 was actually suspended, as per a LinkedIn profile of an Ex Maxis employee. However, the post specifically mentions that it is for PlayStation 5, which has me wondering whether this was just due to Sony, and not the other consoles.

If The Sims 5 does not represent Project Renee, then that claim becomes pointless. Is it possible that Project Renee may not even be behind Unreal Engine 5's The Sims 5? Is conceivable that this is something entirely new and distinct from Project Renee? Since we are in the dark about what is happening behind the scenes, it is natural that everyone is becoming quite agitated over the lack of progress reports.

In our collective consciousness, The Sims 5 has always been synonymous with Project Renee. However, The Sims 5 does not seem to be Project Renee, in my humble assessment. If my suspicions are correct, Project Renee appears to emerge essentially as a spinoff game that operates in an online environment.

The inclusion of internet mechanisms is something we were already made aware of. Additionally, we know for certain that we may kick off constructing or furnishing on our computers, and later switch to our smartphones to finish the job more promptly. Hence, it will be a game that supports several devices and has cooperative play.

The concept of a future The Sims base game for the next generation getting full support alongside The Sims 4? Not happening. The Sims 4 continues to get complete support for downloadable content and developments, so I really doubt that The Sims 5 will receive the same level of attention currently. When The Sims 5 finally presents itself, I expect The Sims 4 to cease releasing downloadable content.

In conjunction with Project Renee, Maxis is occupied with Project Dolores, a distinct endeavor altogether. There is not much knowledge available to us, and I doubt any more has been shared since the most recent Behind The Sims webcast.

Given that Maxis was among the numerous hits by the recent round of widespread dismissals at Electronic Arts, I cannot help but wonder if this has had any effect on the advancement of Project Renee or Project Dolores, and by extension, on a highly anticipated The Sims game.
