Three Nintendo Directs Rumored — Two Set for September in Major Mario & Metroid Push
Leaks point to a double Direct blowout celebrating Mario's 40th anniversary and unveiling long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 details.

A new report says that Nintendo will have three Nintendo Direct presentations soon, with two of them happening in September. This could be one of the busiest months for the company in years. If it's true, the lineup could be a turning point for the year the Switch 2 comes out, tying together anniversary parties, big game announcements, and franchise-specific shows.
That's what a newly surfaced report says. This time, it looks like September will have two different Directs: one will be all about Mario's 40th anniversary, and the other will be more general, with a lot of third-party games and the release date for Metroid Prime 4 Beyond being announced.

There is already a lot of evidence for a big anniversary party. Nintendo just announced its "My Mario" line, which includes products for kids like toys, picture books, and an app that looks like the Super Mario 64 start screen. The line comes out on August 26 in Nintendo shops in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. Some items will be sold outside of Japan in 2026.
This isn't a chance drop; it's part of a bigger push to sell stuff. Before September, Mario's anniversary month, clothing lines and other goods with his name on them have also started to appear. Every five years, Nintendo goes all out for Mario's anniversary. The 35th Anniversary Direct included Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Mario 35, and more.
There might be an anniversary Direct in early September and a quick-turnaround game launch later that month, just like there was with 3D All-Stars in 2020. Some rumors say this Direct will also talk about the next Mario movie, update Super Nintendo World, and show off a new anniversary-themed game. Some possible games are Super Mario Bros. Wonder for the Switch and a long-awaited remake of Super Mario Galaxy 2.
It is said that the second show in September will be a general Nintendo Direct with big news from third parties and the long-awaited release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. It makes sense for this time. The art book for the Prime series is set to come out on October 28. Nintendo released Pikmin 1 and 2 right before Pikmin 4, so this plan would work the same way.
Fans also figured out the tactic Nintendo is using for their game releases. There are also a lot of rumors that there will be two September Directs. We like to think that Nintendo's summer was surprisingly quiet, which could be the calm before a huge storm in September.
It fits Nintendo's style. Along with celebrating anniversaries, they often use September to get ready for the holidays and hint at early releases for next year. Dates for upcoming projects like Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth have not yet been set, and a number of rated or teased Switch games have not yet been revealed.

This year is major for them as the Nintendo Switch 2 has gotten positive feedback, and they don't want to let the hype die down. In 2017, Nintendo held five series-specific Directs in addition to its main general presentations. They did this to keep people interested by making news all the time. That plan would be followed by a Mario Anniversary Direct and then a general Direct.
Now, there's even room for more franchise-specific shows, maybe for Kirby Air Riders or other big Switch 2 games. Since there are no September releases planned yet, it seems likely that a Mario game will come out soon.
Even though these reports haven't been proven, it's hard to ignore the sense behind them. The recent push for Mario merchandise by Nintendo, the five-year anniversary cycle, and the break in September's schedule are all signs that big news is coming. When you add in multiple sources that back up what you already know, September could be a historic month for Nintendo fans.
If everything goes as planned, September will bring us:
A Mario 40th Anniversary Direct in early September that showed new movies, parks, and games. A general Direct in the middle to end of September that includes the release date for Metroid Prime 4 and big third-party showcases.
A Direct for Metroid Prime 4 is expected in early October, setting up a release in late 2025. Fans will be closely following Nintendo's every move until then, eager to see if this triple-Direct plan comes to fruition.
