When Will Capcom Officially Reveal Resident Evil 9?

Will the big reveal for Resident Evil 9 happen at The Game Awards 2024 or Summer Game Fest 2025?

Some great news about Resident Evil 9 has recently come out. Thanks to a recent leak, we now know a ton more about the upcoming entry in the series. Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine are making a triumphant return, and they're reportedly heading to an unknown island where danger waits.

This leak confirmed many things, including the reappearance of old enemies, new plot points and storylines connected to the Megamycete saga, and the appearance of several familiar characters—apparently not from the Resident Evil 4 remake. Now the question is, when will Resident Evil 9 finally be revealed?

The official reveal of Resident Evil will likely take place either this year or next, and fans of the game are going absolutely bonkers over the leak that occurred last week. Some fans might be anticipating that Capcom will announce it during The Game Awards 2024. Why not, though? After all, The Game Awards is the most reached gaming event of the year, second only in terms of scope to Summer Game Fest.

Since The Game Awards attract a sizable audience, Capcom probably won't want to pass on that opportunity. Revealing Resident Evil 9 at the Game Awards next month would be the perfect timing if the game is set to be released in the first half of next year. Nonetheless, they can always hold off on revealing it till Summer Game Fest in June 2025 if the game gets any further delayed.

If an announcement is made this year, then Resident Evil 9's release date will probably be around 2025. I can see Resident Evil 9 easily sliding into late 2025 or perhaps early 2026 if the reveal trailer for the game has to be delayed until 2025 for the Summer Game Fest. The 2025 release date of games has been kept under wraps for the most part, courtesy of Rockstar Games, which is something we've noticed this year.

We know Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in the fall of next year, even though Rockstar Games might delay the GTA 6 release due to recent developments. It goes without saying that no developer or publisher would dare put their game out within the same window as Grand Theft Auto 6. Dealing with Rockstar Games' impending release of Grand Theft Auto 6 next year must be challenging for publishers. This gives the developers some extra time to polish their games, but seriously, who wants to release a game around Grand Theft Auto 6?

Anyway, if Capcom does announce Resident Evil 9 during The Game Awards 2024, what exactly will it be? My best bet is that it's going to be a mere teaser trailer instead of any gameplay footage. But it would be great if there was a trailer that showed off the island and a glimpse of Jill Valentine in gray hair and elderly Leon Kennedy, beard and all.

Since the leak stated that Leon Kennedy will be aged in Resident Evil 9, it would be interesting to see how Jill Valentine looks in the game. I would hope for some gameplay footage, too, which might indicate that the game could get a 2025 release. Though I don't think Capcom will instantly show gameplay, that much is certain. Capcom always loves to keep things hidden until they believe it's time. I guess that whatever Capcom announces will be a brief teaser, and we will have to hold tight until next year for any additional gameplay or story trailers.
