Nintendo's future game, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, has been getting a lot of attention since a new trailer and some new information about the game came out. Fans of the series may recognize the bright shooter, but new information about the price, storage size, and which platforms it will be available on has sparked a lot of debate in the gaming community.

The game's price is one of the most important factors. Some new games now cost $70, but Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will only cost $60 when it comes out, in both digital and hard forms. Some players thought the game might not have as many features as other first-party releases because of the price, but the real reason seems much simpler.

As a 2D platformer, the game is priced at $60, in line with Nintendo’s usual practice of setting prices based on game type rather than reflecting any new details about the project.

Meanwhile, there was some online doubt for a short time after a fake picture of a game key card circulated on Twitter and other social media sites.

The picture made it look like the game would use a different type of disk. But that report was quickly shot down. Instead, the game will come on a standard cartridge made for the next version of Switch hardware. With the format issue settled, fans are now turning their attention to the upcoming launch. The official date for the release of the game is May 21, 2026, so players won't have to wait long to start Yoshi's latest journey. File size is another talking point among players.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book requires 20.6 GB of space, which is relatively large for a 2D game.

That number might not be the last word, though. Early listings in stores often show larger file sizes before the game even comes out, and as the release date gets closer, developers sometimes reduce the install size by improving the game's performance. Once the development team completes the final few changes, the final version may take up less space.

Several things could explain why the size hasn't changed. A lot of the time, big music files are a major reason games use so much storage space. The soundtrack and sound design could make the file much larger if included in high-quality, uncompressed formats.

The way the game looks is another option. It would also need much more storage space than past Yoshi games if it uses native 4K textures or higher-resolution assets. The larger-than-expected footprint could also be due to the animation style, the range of levels, and the total number of stages.

The game will only be available for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, not the original Switch.

This exclusivity has sparked debate among players who continue to use older hardware. After seeing how long the first Switch has been out, some fans have taken to social media to say they are worried about switching. Many gamers feel they've taken a big step when they switch to a new generation of consoles, especially when popular series start releasing games that are exclusive to the newer system.

Still, Nintendo has tried to make the change easier in several ways.

Backwards compatibility will be built into the Switch 2, so players can use their old Switch files on the new hardware. In other words, most games bought before should still work when players switch to the new system.

Nintendo is also likely to add easy data transfer choices so that players can move their saves, purchases, and digital content from the old Switch to the new one. People who want to get Yoshi and the Mysterious Book or other new games shouldn't have to give up access to their old library (their previously purchased and downloaded games) when they upgrade.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is set to be a defining early Switch 2 exclusive. The release date, price, and technical rumors have all been clarified.
