The rumors were true. Sony unveiled a new PS3 model at Tokyo Game Show. The new PlayStation 3 will be smaller, lighter, and available in two different models.
The two models will be available with 250GB or 500GB hard disk drives and feature a smaller streamlined design in the typical black color (in Japan they're available in white). They will be 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the current PS3 model.
Smaller, lighter, and more storage.
The new PS3 models will be available in limited edition bundles with the first bundle available on September 25th. It will include the 250MG PS3, Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception: Game of the Year Edition, and Dust 514 with a voucher for bonus content. The 500GB PS3 will be available in a limited edition bundle on October 30th with the release of Assassin's Creed III. The 250MG PS3 bundle is priced at $269.99 and the 500MG bundle is priced at $299.
Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception: Game of the Year Edition is being re-released next week; available in the limited edition bundle and as a standalone game for $39.99. It will include new multiplayer maps, multiplayer skins, Fort Co-op Adventure, and Shade Survival Mode.
The new PS3 model looks pretty, and there's nothing better than a smaller, lighter version of a console. However, cheaper is always better.
