EA to Shut More Servers

By fishdalf, Posted 17 Feb 2010

EA have announced further online server shutdowns across the board for some of their titles, 12 now face the chopping block and that trend is set to continue. The titles will soon only be available offline and this has many fans angry, especially when the most controversial, Lord of the Rings: Conquest, was only released a year ago and is still widely available to rent from most major retailers.

The full list is:

Def Jam for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
Godfather for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
Lord of the Rings: Conquest for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames for PC
Need for Speed: Carbon for PlayStation Portable
Need for Speed: ProStreet for PlayStation Portable
Simpsons for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
Burnout 3: Takedown for PlayStation 2
Army of Two for PlayStation 3 (Asia only)
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat for Xbox
Burnout 3: Takedown for Xbox
Madden NFL 09 for Xbox

This news is sure to have many gamers second guessing how much value for money they’re getting from their games, especially with the online user base increasing week by week and the online modes and options offered with newer titles becoming far more prolific than ever before.

  • EA knows how to continously piss fans off.

Certainly a bad news for those who've been playing those games. I won't complain though. I highly doubt the mass of those who are actually playing those games now. Maybe they are relocating those servers for newer or upcoming games. Or maybe they are saving resources for any ongoing big project.

  • Well I played Lord of the Rings: Conquest a couple of months back and the online servers werent exactly empty, there were a fair few people playing and enjoying the experience.

  • From the list, I am concerned about Mercenaries 2 because I play the PS3 version and I still need to play the online portion. Thank god about Bad Company!! I heard some rumors about the servers closure.

  • WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

    Posted Feb 18, 2010

  • Def Jam? I didn't hardly ever play it online but I might like to come back to it every now and then. When are these going down? I'll have to try to get a little more time in while I still can. It's also sad to hear about Lord of the Rings: Conquest, because it's fairly cheap now and I was considering picking it up. It also makes me cautious about future EA titles.

  • Between March 15 and April 16.

  • Not a good news for those who were playing those games.

    Posted Feb 18, 2010

  • well I think there are not many players who are on these right now :)

  • I don't understand this. How expensive was these 12 servers? EA couldn't afford or what :/
