We’ve all been through it, as spectators in the sidelines, just watching, waiting, and hoping for the last 13 years. Ladies and gentlemen, that hope has been restored! This week developer Gearbox Software and publisher 2K have announced the release date for the long-in-development first person shooter, Duke Nukem Forever. Yup, it’s finally official; DNF will ship on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on May 3rd in North America, and May 6th worldwide. Here is the official box art of the game:
In addition to the solidified release date, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford also promised a demo before the game launches, with gamers who purchase the Game of the Year Edition of Borderlands get first dibs on it. So keep a sharp eye out for that announcement soon. A playable demo version of Duke Nukem Forever was shown off at PAX 2010.
First announced in the year of 1997, Duke Nukem Forever has been through its ups and downs, with the constant change in game engines, a long stint with publisher Take-Two Interactive, studio closure, and layoffs. 3D Realms co-owner George Broussard has been fortunate enough to have friends in high places, which led to Gearbox purchasing the Duke Nukem IP and saving it from vaporware/development hell status. Now, the game is finally going to reach store shelves, and I’m sure some of you are excited about it.
For the long, 13 year-or-so history that Duke Nukem Forever has made (we can call it history, right?), it’s gotten me pretty excited to get my hands on the game when it ships this May. As someone who hasn’t played a Duke Nukem game in his life, consider me a new fan.
A new trailer has also been revealed, provided below. The King is definitely back!

Ya I don't really care, but I seem to be the only one in that boat...so I'll just sail a little farther over...here.
