If you are into casual gaming and you’ve liked titles like Angry Birds or Plants vs. Zombies, then you’ll love Poof vs. the Cursed Kitty. Poof vs. the Cursed Kitty is an actually pretty fun 2-D game about a prisoner golden eggs-laying kitty and its honorable defender, Poof, a dog in shiny armor that will try to impede the destruction of the poor cat.

The gameplay is pretty straight forward: you have to kill enemies, collect gems and power-ups and don’t let the foes reach the captive kitten. In order to beat each level, it will be necessary not to eliminate every foe in the vicinity; instead, Poof will have to successfully complete a series of tasks; from killing certain number of foes, to activating specific power-ups several times.

The game may sound simple, but it’s actually kind of complicated. Soon enough, you’ll find yourself overwhelmed by the non-stopping hordes of enemies that want to destroy you and kitty cat, but once you complete the tasks, you’ll have the option to terminate the game and proceed to the skill advancement screen. Another aid in the everlasting fight for kitty’s wellbeing is the Golden Egg that the cat will lay and, whenever it is reached by Poof, will annihilate every bad guy in the screen at the moment.

The skill advancement options are well designed and the power-ups it offers are of great help and creativity. Probably, one the bad things about the game is that new scenarios are one the perks obtained through skill advancement options. Before you unlock that perk, you’ll find yourself doing the same over and over again in the exact same scenario. It is not uncommon for this type of games to seem endless due to the amount of levels they possess; however, even Angry Birds has a very wide span of level variants. In Spoof, the same scenario –with different backgrounds- will be the only one available for a considerable game time.

On the other hand, the music in the game is amazing. I can describe it as a modern mixture of heroic medieval tunes, with just some beats to add rhythm. Even though there aren’t many tracks to accompany you in your quest, they don’t sound repetitive at all and you will get to enjoy them every time.

In spite of it all, Poof vs. the Cursed Kitty is a great casual game and will have you hooked for several hours. The gameplay is really fluid, the response times are good and the power-ups are quite helpful and entertaining to use; for example, slow motion. It is fun, it is simple, it is elegant and has a weird sense of humor regarding things cats and dogs secrete, but, eventually, you’ll get to love both Poof and the poor kitty cat hanging above the well waiting to be protected from the forces of evil.
